Seattle Falls in Cleveland
The Seattle Mariners are in a tight race for the postseason. They still have a chance at an AL West title, and are also still battling for a Wild Card spot. They are just two games behind the division-leading Astros in the AL West, and currently hold the final Wild Card spot in the AL as we head into September. It did not help that they just lost a series in Cleveland, losing the first two before saving face on Sunday. In their last game, Julio Rodriguez had two hits and two RBIs in their 4-2 win.
Rodriguez is their starting centerfielder, he bats third in the lineup and has been with the team since 2022. He has 26 RBIs and 78 RBIs to go with his .266 batting average. Cal Raleigh is one of the top power hitters in the league and is hunting for his first MVP Award this year as he leads the MLB with 50 home runs and is third with 107 RBIs. Raleigh is putting up historic numbers for a catcher and is in his fifth season in the Majors, with his whole career being played in Seattle. Randy Arozarena had a home run in their last game against Cleveland, the left fielder is their leadoff man with 26 home runs and 66 RBIs.
Bryan Woo will make his 27th start of the season as a 25-year-old right-hander. He has a 12-7 record, with the team going 4-1 overall in his last five starts. His ERA is 2.95 to go with 166 strikeouts against 31 walks. In his last start, Woo gave up two runs in 5.2 innings in a win over the Padres.
Rays Complete a Sweep in Washington
The Tampa Bay Rays are fresh off a three-game sweep of the Nationals on the road, and are fighting for their playoff lives as we head into September. The team is fourth in the AL East, but all of the top three teams in their division are currently in line to make the postseason. The Rays currently find themselves 5.5 games out of the final spot in the Wild Card race, with work to do coming into this series.
In Sunday's game in Washington, Brandon Lowe hit a grand slam in the second to blow the game up, eventually leading to a Tampa win. Lowe is their second baseman who took the DH spot on Sunday. He is a 31-year-old who has spent his entire career with Tampa since joining the Majors in 2018. Lowe has 28 home runs and 71 RBIs on the year with a .264 batting average. Everson Pereira has been starting in center field. He had two RBIs on Sunday and is trying to make his presence known as a second year player who was with the Yankees last season. Junior Caminero is their top power hitter, he bats third as their third baseman and leads the team with 39 home runs and 94 RBIs.
Drew Rasmussen will make his 27th start of the season as a 30-year-old right-hander. He has a 10-5 record, but the team has lost in each of his last two starts. His ERA is 2.64 to go with 113 strikeouts against 28 walks. In his last start, Rasmussen gave up two runs in six innings in a loss to the Guardians.
Seattle Mariners Moneyline - 5 units
The Seattle Mariners are in true contention for a playoff spot. The Guardians are 5.5 games out of the final spot, but realistically, many teams are in their way, which will cause awareness amongst the team. Seattle is sending out Woo, he leads the team in innings pitched, and has led the squad to wins in four of his last five games. Over that stretch he has never allowed more than three earned runs, and held three of those opponents to one run or fewer in his innings. Tampa Bay is starting Rasmussen, and he has led the team to losses in his last two outings. Seattle has more to play for, and will grab the win here.
Take the Mariners to win.
Under (5 units)
These teams are sending out two of their top arms, which will lead to a low-scoring game in this American League showdown on Tuesday. The Rays are starting Rasmussen, who has quietly put up one of the strongest seasons on the mound in the league. His ERA 2.64, and the sample size is not small as he has pitched over 129 innings. Seattle is sending out Woo, he is their leader in innings pitched, and has helped the low-scoring Mariners steal enough wins to get 12 wins as a starter. Tampa Bay has gone under in four of its last five games, and will go under again here.
Take the under.
