Tampa Bay Closes out their Season
The Tampa Bay Rays are preparing to hang up their cleats and gloves for the season, as they are already mathematically eliminated from playoff contention. They finish the season north of the border and will close out the year finishing fourth in the AL East. Tampa Bay has several young stars to build around, but it will still need to improve their roster to climb the divisional standings next year. In their last game, the Rays went into the 9th inning tied with the Orioles, but gave up a late run in the loss.
Junior Caminero had two hits in their recent loss to Baltimore, but is still one of the most exciting young players in the league. He is a 22-year-old third baseman who has been batting third in the lineup while leading the team with 44 home runs and 109 RBIs. Caminero made his first All-Star Game this season, and batted .260 at the plate on the year. Brandon Lowe was a healthy scratch in their last game against Baltimore, but is expected to play here and has added 31 home runs and 83 RBIs on the season. Yandy Diaz is a veteran presence who has contributed another 25 home runs and 83 RBIs.
Joe Boyle will make his 9th start of the season as a 26-year-old right-hander. He has a 1-3 record, with the team going 2-3 overall in his last three appearances. His ERA is 4.40 to go with 53 strikeouts against 25 walks. In his last outing, Boyle gave up one run in four innings in a win over the Red Sox.

Seeding on the line for the Blue Jays
The Toronto Blue Jays and the New York Yankees have traded first place in the AL East throughout the season, and now they continue their battle into the final weekend. The two teams are now tied at the top of the division standings, as Toronto looks to steal the AL East crown from the big money Yankees.. The Blue Jays and Yankees will both be playing in the postseason regardless of their finish, but seeding and home-field advantage is on the line as we enter the final three days of the year.
Toronto was able to grab a win in their most recent game against the Red Sox, powered by a grand slam from Daulton Varsho. He was batting sixth in the lineup as their centerfielder and just knocked out his 20th home run to go with 55 RBIs on the year. Varsho is in his third season with the team, after opening his career with three seasons in Arizona. George Springer will finish their season as their top home run hitter with 31 on the season, while Vladimir Guerrero Jr. added another 23 homers with 83 RBIs and a .295 batting average.
Trey Yesavage will make just his third start of his career as a 22-year-old right-handed rookie. He has yet to get a decision in a game, but the Blue Jays have won in each of his first two starts. His ERA is 5.00 to go with 11 strikeouts against five walks. In his most recent outing, he gave up four runs in four innings in a game the Jays still won over Kansas City.
Tampa Bay Rays vs. Toronto Blue Jays picks
Spread pick and prediction for Rays vs. Blue Jays
- Rays (5 units)
There will be a trap game somewhere in this series, and the best bet is for Saturday. Toronto is the better team, but they will not end the season on a series sweep of their divisional rival. This is Tampa's best spot to steal a win, as they are going against a rookie who is in just his third career start. Yesavage got called up late in the year and should have lost his last game as he gave up four runs in four innings, but got bailed out by his offense. The Rays are starting Boyle, who only gave up one run in his last start. These teams are counting down to the end of the season, and this will likely be Tampa's last win of 2025.
Take the Rays to win.
Over/Under Pick for Rays vs. Blue Jays
- Over (4 units)
Neither pitcher is going to instill much confidence in their managerial staff, as each has not been a member of the starting rotation throughout the year. Boyle joined the starting rotation halfway through the season, while Yesavage was just called up by Toronto. Boyle has given up four or more runs in three of his last five games, and Yesavage just gave up four runs before the fifth inning last time out. These two young pitchers will find themselves in trouble as this one soars over the number.
Take the over.
