Rays will finish with a losing record in consecutive seasons

Tampa Bay (77-83 SU, 79-81 RL, and 70-79-11 O/U) lost two of three games against Baltimore in its previous series. The Rays are 4-6 in their last ten games (the over was 5-4-1).

Tampa Bay will start left-hander Ian Seymour on Sunday against the Blue Jays. In his last outing (4.0 IP vs the Orioles), the 26-year-old gave up three runs on four hits and two walks. He is 4-2 with a 2.85 ERA and 1.08 WHIP in 18 appearances (four starts) this season, including 3-1 with a 2.65 ERA and 0.97 WHIP in 12 road appearances (34.0 IP).

The Rays didn't have the season they hoped for, failing to make the playoffs again. They haven't been able to build off their 99-win campaign in 2023, flirting with the .500 mark month after month. Tampa won't be a big bidder in free agency, but can management make enough moves to get the ballclub back in postseason contention in 2026?

Toronto is in must-win mode

Toronto (92-68 SU, 89-71 RL, and 85-70-5 O/U) lost two of three games to Boston in its previous series. The Blue Jays are 4-6 in their last ten games (the under went 6-4).

Canada's team hasn't named right-hander Kevin Gausman as the starter for Sunday's game. In his last outing, the 34-year-old allowed four runs on nine hits with seven strikeouts in a 5.2-inning loss to the Red Sox. He is 10-11 with a 3.47 ERA and 1.03 WHIP in 31 starts (189.1 IP) this year, including 5-5 with a 3.62 ERA and 1.07 WHIP in 15 starts (92.0 IP) at Rogers Centre.

Toronto wasn't initially viewed as a serious contender in 2025, but it took the AL East by storm mid-season, pulling away from the competition. The Blue Jays haven't been as hot lately, though, allowing New York and Boston to make up ground in the division standings. Can they hold off the Yankees to win the East for the first time since 2015?

Rays vs. Blue Jays Pick

Moneyline Pick for Rays vs. Blue Jays

  • Tampa Bay ML (5 Units)

Seymour has pitched well both in the bullpen and as a starter, with his best outing of the season a gem against Toronto (one run (zero earned) on four hits in seven innings). Gausman, meanwhile, has not fared as well against Tampa Bay. Earlier this season, the visitors scored six runs on ten hits against him, launching three home runs. Current Rays hitters boast a .333 BA, .632 SLG, and .423 wOBA in 60 combined plate appearances versus Gausman.

The pressure is on Toronto, as New York is breathing down its neck, while Tampa Bay can play loose and free. The Rays will play the role of spoiler on Sunday, winning straight-up in the regular season finale.

Over/Under Pick for Rays vs. Blue Jays

  • Under (5 Units)

The under, which is 7-3 in the last ten meetings between these division rivals, is my recommendation for the total in Sunday's game. Seymour dominated Toronto a couple of starts ago and enters this matchup with momentum, pitching to a 2.66 ERA in four September outings. I believe he'll have similar success against the Blue Jays before turning the ball over to a reliable Rays bullpen (11th in ERA). While I'm backing the visitors to win, I don't believe it will be a high-scoring game. Gausman has had his troubles against Tampa Bay, but held the Rays to one run earlier this month.
