Texas Wins Six Straight
Don't look now, but the Texas Rangers are one of the hottest teams in baseball over the past week, as they have won their sixth straight game coming into their matchup on Tuesday. They took two of three at home against the Angels, then swept the Athletics on the road before winning the first game of this series. The Rangers are fighting for a spot in the postseason. They are third in the AL West, but more importantly, just 1.5 games out of the final Wild Card spot as they chase the Mariners.
They won the first game of this series in extra innings, as an Alejandro Osuna single sent home two runners in the top of the tenth, creating a lead which would not be taken over. Osuna was a pinch hitter in the game, and the 22-year-old does not have much experience as he has just one home run and seven RBIs in his first season, but he came up big on Monday. Wyatt Langford hit a solo home run in the sixth inning, which was an important shot as it tied the game at 3-3. Langford is in his second year in the league, and now has 21 home runs and 58 RBIs on the year while batting .249 at the plate. Corey Seager also has 21 home runs, but will miss this game as he is on the 10-day IL with an abdominal injury.
Jack Leiter will make his 25th start of the season as a 25-year-old right-hander. He has a 9-7 record with the team winning in each of his last two starts. His ERA is 3.77 to go with 118 strikeouts against 59 walks. In his last start, Leiter gave up two earned runs in six innings in a win over the Athletics.
Diamondbacks Battle Injury Bug
The Arizona Diamondbacks were hoping their 2025 season would have gone better; they know they play in the difficult NL West, but this roster was loaded with talent to start the season. Eventually, the team saw some of the writing on the wall and traded away Eugenio Suarez, who was leading the team in home runs and RBIs as an All-Star. On top of this, the team just watched Loudes Gurriel Jr. get carted off the field with an apparent knee injury, which is sure to keep one of their top power hitters out of the lineup for a long time.
Arizona is 6.5 games out of the final Wild Card spot, but time is running out as they would need to overtake three teams to take that spot. They lost in extra innings against this Texas team in their first matchup, despite getting home runs in the first two at-bats. Ketel Marte is their leadoff hitter. He went deep in his first at bat on Monday, then Geraldo Perdomo homered immediately after that, but the team could not hold their 2-0 lead. Marte was an All-Star again this year, despite missing the beginning part of the season. Marte has 24 home runs and 61 RBIs, while Perdomo bats second with his 16 home runs and 88 RBIs.
Zac Gallen will make his 29th start of the season, and has pitched 15 more innings than any other player on his team. He is a 30-year-old right-hander with a 10-13 record. His strikeout-to-walk ratio is 149-56, with his 4.94 ERA. In his last start, Gallen pitched six scoreless innings in a win over the Dodgers.
Texas Rangers Moneyline - (5 units)
A team can only take so much before they fold for the season, and Arizona is knocking on that door. They traded away their most productive offensive player in Suarez, just watched a strong outfielder in Gurriel get carted off the field, and narrowly lost the first game of this series to a pinch hitter with a .156 batting average, knocking in the game-winning runs. Arizona will be down for this one, and even if Gallen is their top pitcher, his record is only 10-13 on the year. Texas is starting Leiter, who won in each of his last two starts. The Rangers are knocking on the door of the final Wild Card spot as the first team back; they will grab a win here over a reeling Arizona squad.
Take the Ranger to win.
Over - (4 units)
The first game of this set went to extra innings, and went over the number, as will this closing matchup. Arizona is starting Gallen, he gave up three quick runs to the Rangers last time they met, and will struggle again here as this Texas lineup is at full strength. Texas is starting Leiter and he recently gave up three earned runs in under four innings in a loss to the Royals. Texas has gone over in five of their last six games, and this will be another high-scoring game.
Take the over.
