Scherzer On the Mound to Conclude Series

Max Scherzer will be on the mound to conclude the series on Sunday afternoon. Scherzer was shaky in his recent outing, conceding four runs in four innings against Milwaukee, and was able to escape with a no-decision in a game the Jays lost. The veteran has conceded two or fewer runs in three of his past five starts and has delivered a 4.11 ERA and a 1.13 WHIP, accompanied by a 5-2 record in 70 innings on the year. Scherzer squandered four runs against the Yankees in July and has issued a 4.39 ERA and a 4-5 record in his career against the rivals.

The Toronto Blue Jays are concluding a road trek in this game. They won two of three road clashes against the Reds this week in a series that yielded a ton of offense. They scored 29 runs and conceded 23 runs. The pitching will need to be better down the stretch. The Blue Jays stand four games ahead of the Yankees atop the division, and this is the last meeting of the season. The Jays are 37-35 on the road.

Addison Barger has been key to the Jay's success. The 25-year-old third baseman has 65 RBIs and a .762 OPS on the season. George Springer has netted 12 RBIs against the Yankees this season. The veteran is having one of the best seasons of his career, bashing 27 homers with 72 RBIs and a .950 OPS. Alejando Kirk has issued five RBIs on the month. The 26-year-old catcher has managed 76 RBIs. Vladimir Guerrero Jr. has recorded eight RBIs against the Yankees this season. The star first baseman has 23 homers and 78 RBIs on the season.

Toronto is averaging 4.97 runs per game on the season, good for fifth. The pitching staff has a subpar 4.25 ERA, placing them 20th.

Yankees Eye First Place in AL East

Max Fried gets the nod on Sunday. Fried was sharp in his recent outing, conceding one run in seven innings against Houston, and secured the win. The veteran had a poor August, where he netted a 5.14 ERA. The southpaw is having an outstanding season, sporting a stingy 2.98 ERA and a 1.11 WHIP, accompanied by a 15-5 record in 169 innings pitched on the season. Fried has squandered 11 runs against Toronto this season and has a sharp 2.48 ERA and a 3-1 record in 36.1 career innings against the rivals.

The New York Yankees are enjoying a dominating few weeks. They have won five of their past six series and are in the 1st wildcard spot, just 0.5 games ahead of the Red Sox. The Yankees won a series against the White Sox last week and came through with two road wins against the Astros this week, aided by the offense, scoring 22 runs. The Yankees stand at 41-29 at home.

Ben Rice continues to enjoy a breakout season. The 26-year-old first baseman has clubbed 22 bombs with 51 RBIs. Anthony Volpe has issued five RBIs in his past seven games. The 24-year-old shortstop has registered 70 RBIs but a subpar .668 OPS. Giancarlo Stanton has been quiet this past week, but he has been a tough out most of the season. He has a dazzling .980 OPS on the year. Aaron Judge has three homers and six RBIs against the Blue Jays this season. The star slugger has bashed 43 big flies with 97 RBIs and a sharp 1.1 OPS.

New York is scoring an average of 5.26 runs on the year, rating them #1. The pitching is a strength, reporting a 3.95 ERA, placing them 12th.

Spread Pick for Blue Jays vs. Yankees

  • Toronto Blue Jays +130 (5 units)

The Toronto Blue Jays have enjoyed success against the New York Yankees this season, winning eight of the 12 meetings entering Saturday. The Blue Jays are strong on the road, where they have won two straight road series. The Yankees are only 3-3 in their past six games.

Furthermore, Blue Jays pitcher Max Scherzer still has it. The veteran has conceded two or fewer runs in three of his past five outings. The Blue Jays are enjoying success with him on the mound, winning in five of his past six starts. Scherzer has posted a 3.60 ERA on the road. Yankees pitcher Max Fried has been shaky against Toronto this season, squandering 11 runs (eight earned) in 17.1 innings.

Over/Under Pick for Blue Jays vs. Yankees

  • Over 8.5 (5 units)

I expect a barrage of scoring on Sunday afternoon. Toronto has exposed the Yankees' pitching this season, averaging 5.6 runs in the 11 meetings against the rivals entering Saturday afternoon. Toronto continues to rake at the plate, averaging a robust 6.0 runs in its past ten games.

In addition, New York has also been productive, averaging 4.6 runs against the Blue Jays this season. Scherzer was shaky in his only outing against New York this season, squandering four runs in five innings of work. New York is piling on the offense, scoring five or more runs in seven of their past ten games. The over is a convincing 7-3 in the Blue Jays' past ten games.
