Toronto Leads the Division
The AL East is one of the toughest divisions in baseball, and the Toronto Blue Jays have surprisingly been at the top since the All-Star Break. They still hold a 3.5 game lead over both the Yankees and Red Sox, as they try to hold off the two teams with big bankrolls in the division. The Blue Jays have the second-best record in all of baseball, trailing only the Brewers out of the National League. They have the best record in the American League, but lead the Detroit Tigers by only a half game.
The Blue Jays had the day off on Thursday and were able to travel to New York without needing to rush. They just finished a three-game series in Cincinnati, where they won two of the three games. The offense exploded in their last two games, scoring 12 and then 13 runs to conclude the series with two wins. In Wednesday's game, the Blue Jays tied their season high of five home runs in a game to cruise to a high-scoring 13-9 win. Vladimir Guerrero Jr. homered in the game, it was his 22nd of the season, and is now up to 77 RBIs. George Springer also went yard from the top of the lineup, blasting his 27th homer of the season to go with his 72 RBIs.
Kevin Gausman will make his 28th start of the season as a 34-year-old right-hander. He leads the team in innings pitched and has an 8-10 record to go with his 3.75 ERA. He has 157 strikeouts against 43 walks. In his last start, Gausman gave up just one run in seven innings, but the team still lost to the Brewers.
Yankees Win Eight of 10
The New York Yankees were at the top of the AL East for the first third of the season, and have not given up hope about getting back to that top spot. They are just 3.5 games back from the Blue Jays, making this a pivotal series in their division. They need to close up their series against the Astros on Thursday in Houston, then travel home for this game. They split the first two against the Astros, losing on Wednesday night in a tight 8-7 contest.
The Yankees got three RBIs from Cody Bellinger in their last game against Houston. He has been batting third in the lineup as their right fielder recently. Bellinger has 27 home runs and 86 RBIs on the year, and is in his first season with the Yankees after coming over from the Cubs. Aaron Judge went 1-5 on Wednesday and is still the face of the franchise and of the league as he continues to put up strong numbers. Judge has the best batting average at .323, is fourth in home runs with 43, and seventh in RBIs with 97. Judge has been batting second behind Trent Grisham, who is also playing well with his 29 homers and 61 RBIs.
Cam Schlittler will make his 10th start of the season as a 24-year-old right-handed rookie. His record is 2-2, with the team winning in each of his last three starts. His ERA is 2.61 to go with 54 strikeouts against 20 walks. In his last start, he gave up one run in six innings in a win over the White Sox.

Spread Pick for Blue Jays vs. Yankees
- Toronto Blue Jays Moneyline (5 units)
There is a travel discrepancy here; the Blue Jays are already the better team according to their record, but they also have the day off on Thursday as the Yankees battle the AL West-leading Astros. The Yankee game is in Houston, meaning they will travel home the same night to get ready to play the next day. Big leaguers are used to this, but the extra day of rest will allow Toronto to have its bullpen at full strength and ready for this matchup. The Yanks are starting a rookie on the mound, and while he has been solid lately, wins over the White Sox and Nationals are not as impressive as the box score says. The Blue Jays have a much stronger offense; they scored 12 or more in each of their last two games, and will get the win here.
Take the Blue Jays to win.
Over/Pick for Blue Jays vs. Yankees Pick
- Under (4 units)
We have opposite extremes on the mound here. Toronto is sending out a veteran pitcher who leads their team in innings pitched, while New York is sending out a rookie pitching just his 10th game of the season. Whichever way you cut it, both pitchers have looked strong recently and will keep this a low scoring game. Schlittler is New York's rookie, and he has an impressive 2.61 ERA through nine starts. Toronto is sending out Gausman, and he took a loss in his last game despite only giving up one run to the best team in baseball against the Brewers. The pitching will be steady here, and we will get an under.
Take the under.
