Nationals vs. Marlins prediction

The Washington Nationals (59-84)  and Miami Marlins (66-78) meet again on Tuesday after a wild 15-7 Washington win on Monday night. Both teams enter this matchup with struggling pitching staffs and lineups that have been heating up down the stretch.

Nationals offense erupted Monday

Washington enters Tuesday sitting at the bottom of the NL East but has been playing spoiler lately with an offense that can put up crooked numbers. The Nationals rank 19th in MLB in runs per game (4.31) but have shown more punch in recent weeks, averaging over five runs per contest across their last 10 games. James Wood has been a breakout star with 27 home runs and an .826 OPS, while CJ Abrams leads the club with a .267 batting average and 119 stolen bases give the lineup extra dynamism.

Pitching has been a major weakness. The staff’s 5.30 ERA ranks 29th in MLB, and Tuesday’s starter Mitchell Parker has been a liability, posting an 8.22 ERA over his last five outings and a 6.68 ERA on the road. Against Miami specifically, Parker has struggled with a 7.07 ERA in three starts. If Washington is going to grab another win, it will likely come from the bats rather than the arms.

Mazur looking for confidence

Miami has not been able to build on last year’s playoff appearance and sits in third place in the division with a losing record. Still, their offense has shown flashes, ranking 11th in batting average (.250) and scoring 4.33 runs per game. The Marlins run the bases well, with 116 stolen bases, and feature balanced production across the lineup.

The problem has been preventing runs. Miami’s staff carries a 4.80 ERA (26th) with only 31 quality starts all season, the fewest in MLB. Rookie starter Adam Mazur is on the mound after giving up 10 hits and four earned runs in six innings against Washington just last week. Overall, Mazur has a 6.93 ERA and 1.72 WHIP across 11 career starts. Making matters worse, the bullpen has been unreliable, coughing up a 7.38 ERA over the last 10 games.

Spread Pick for Washington Nationals vs Miami Marlins

  • Nationals +105 (4 Units)

The Nationals enter this matchup riding a three-game winning streak, and they’ve had the upper hand on Miami, winning four straight head-to-head, including back-to-back as an underdog. Even with two shaky starters on the mound, I can’t lay juice on the Marlins in this spot given how the bullpens stack up. Washington’s relief corps has quietly been excellent, posting a 2.45 ERA and 1.07 WHIP over the last 10 games, while Miami’s pen has been a liability at 7.38 ERA and 1.73 WHIP in the same stretch. With momentum, bullpen advantage, and plus money value, the Nationals are worth the play tonight.

Over/Under Pick For Washington Nationals vs. Miami Marlins

  • Over 8.5 (5 Units)

Everything about this matchup points to the over. The Nationals hammered the Marlins 15-7 on Monday, and I expect another high-scoring game here. Washington is starting Mitchell Parker, who owns an 8.22 ERA over his last five starts. He’s also struggled on the road with a 6.68 ERA and has been hit hard by Miami, posting a 7.07 ERA in three starts against them this season. The Marlins counter with Adam Mazur, who just faced Washington a week ago and gave up 10 hits and four earned runs in six innings. For his career, Mazur has a 6.93 ERA and 1.72 WHIP across 11 starts. Offensively, both clubs are hot, averaging at least five runs per game over their last 10. To make matters worse for Miami, their bullpen has been a disaster with a 7.38 ERA during that stretch.Take the over.
