Boston Celtics vs Charlotte Hornets Odds and Game Information

  • Game: Friday, November 6, 2026 — NBA Cup group play
  • Tipoff: 7:00 PM ET at Spectrum Center, Charlotte
  • Afternoon moneyline reference: Boston -378 / Charlotte +300
  • Afternoon spread reference: Boston -9.5 (-115) / Charlotte +9.5 (-105)
  • Afternoon total reference: 208.5 points
  • Best Bet: Charlotte Hornets +9.5 (-105)

A big favorite isn't necessarily a good bet. Still, nearly ten points is a different conversation from an outright winner. In Friday's NBA Cup game, the Hornets can spend most of the evening trailing and still reward anyone holding a +9.5 ticket.

Boston Has Earned Respect, but the Bench Matters

The Celtics looked comfortable early against Milwaukee on Wednesday, building a 21-point lead by halftime. Then the Bucks made them play the rest of the game. Boston ultimately won 109-102 with Jayson Tatum resting, thanks in large part to Paul George's 25 points and Derrick White's 24. White scored 11 in the fourth quarter when it mattered most. It was a useful reminder that the Celtics don't have to lean on one scorer to get out of a difficult stretch.

Tatum's scheduled return gives Boston another way to attack a mismatch. When he gets the ball near the elbow, the defense has a choice: leave one man with him or send help and risk freeing George or White. Payton Pritchard was questionable with a right-eye abrasion entering Friday. It does leave some uncertainty around their guard rotation and how smoothly the second unit will run when the primary creators need a rest. For a team laying nine and a half on the road, those quieter minutes can be just as important as its best highlight play.

Charlotte Needs More Than a Hot Shooting Quarter

Charlotte actually got a strong individual effort from Naz Reid in Wednesday's 114-104 loss to Brooklyn. Reid scored 28. The problem was what happened when the initial offense bogged down: too many trips produced little, and the team couldn't string together enough defensive stops to close the gap. That has been a recurring issue during the Hornets' rough start, rather than something one player can solve by scoring thirty.

Brandon Miller gives them a threat from outside and a player who can make a difficult attempt late in the clock. Coby White is another ball handler Boston has to respect. When those two are decisive, Charlotte doesn't need a perfect designed play to get a decent look. It does need someone to finish the possession at the other end. Getting a rebound instead of giving Boston another shot is a basic but essential part of staying close.

The injury list complicates that job. Kon Knueppel and Grant Williams are out, while Moussa Diabate and Dennis Schroder were questionable. Diabate's rebounding is especially relevant against a Celtics team that is already capable of creating good looks without help. Charlotte has no spare margin for a dozen extra Boston attempts.

Where the Nine and a Half Points Come Into Play

That is a genuine danger for an underdog ticket. The Hornets have given opponents plenty of chances to turn a modest lead into an ugly one, and Boston is far better equipped than most to make them pay. I don't need Charlotte to win the matchup battle to like the points, though. I need the Hornets to avoid losing several minutes at a time.

The game could also change character late. Suppose Boston is up twelve with three minutes left. The Celtics will be thinking about bringing home a win, not about whether they finish at twelve or seven. Charlotte's final possessions won't be meaningless to a spread bettor. That doesn't guarantee any late rally, but it explains why a double-digit road number is uncomfortable even when the favorite looks clearly superior.

Odds and Line Movement: Celtics vs Hornets

Early public numbers had Boston around -8.5. By the 3:14 p.m. ET DraftKings Network reference, the spread was Celtics -9.5, and Charlotte +9.5 carried a -105 price. Totals quoted elsewhere had eased from approximately 210.5 toward the 208-point range. Those observations describe different market snapshots; they should not be mistaken for a complete play-by-play of one sportsbook's odds board.

The extra point matters. I would not treat +8.5 as the same bet as +9.5, and the questionable Charlotte players could change the injury picture before tipoff. If it disappears, the argument needs to be reconsidered rather than simply repeated.

Best Bet: Charlotte Hornets +9.5 (-105)

The Celtics should make the stronger plays over the course of the night. They're deeper in high-level scoring options, more reliable defensively and better at finding a second answer when the first one fails. Charlotte's case is narrower: enough Miller and Reid offense to avoid prolonged droughts, enough work on the glass to prevent extra Boston possessions, and a margin that stays manageable even without an upset. I'll take the generous home underdog number while expecting the favorite to win.

Boston Celtics vs Charlotte Hornets Final Score Prediction

Predicted score: Boston Celtics 110, Charlotte Hornets 103. Boston wins by seven, a result that would leave the Hornets inside +9.5.
