Boston Looking for First Win of 2025-26 Season

Boston sputtered offensively in their game in the Big Apple against the Knicks as they were knocked off on the road Friday night. The Celtics dropped to 0-2 on the season and stood tied for fourth in the Atlantic Division, two games behind the Knicks for the top spot. Against New York on Friday, Boston was up 30-22 after the opening quarter before getting hammered 42-14 in the second quarter to trail by 20 at the half. The Celtics never got closer than nine the rest of the way as they went down in defeat. Boston shot 42.7% from the field, including 15 of 44 from three-point range, and lost the rebounding battle 53-37 in the game. Jaylen Brown led the Celtics with 23 points and four rebounds in the loss.

For the season, the Celtics are 29th in the league in scoring offense with an average of 105.5 points per game. Hugo Gonzalez, Xavier Tillman Sr., Chris Boucher, Josh Minott, Luka Garza, and Baylor Scheierman are other key rotation pieces for Joe Mazzulla. Boston is 26th in the league in field goal percentage as they shoot 43.9% from the floor this season. Pistons Seeking Back-to-Back Wins

Detroit bounced back from blowing a 23-point lead on the road to the Bulls as they took down the Rockets on the road Friday night. The Pistons evened their record at 1-1 on the year and stood tied for third in the Central Division, one game behind the Bucks for the top spot. Against Houston, Detroit trailed by one after the opening quarter, rallied to lead by seven at the half and took the lead with a 6-0 run late in the fourth quarter to break a 105-105 tie en route to the win. The Pistons shot 46.7% from the floor, including 16 of 39 from three-point range, and held the Rockets to 38.6% shooting in the game to offset 17 turnovers. Cade Cunningham led Detroit with 21 points, seven rebounds and nine assists in the win.

This year, the Pistons are 25th in the league in scoring offense as they average 113 points a game. Detroit is 13th in rebounding with an average of 47 boards per contest and 10th in assists by dishing out 27.5 dimes a night. The Pistons are 7th in the league in scoring defense as they give up an average of 113 points per contest. Cade Cunningham leads the way offensively for the Pistons with 22 points plus seven rebounds and 9.5 assists per game. Ronald Holland II (15 points, 4.5 rebounds, three assists), Ausar Thompson (15 points, 5.5 rebounds, 5.5 assists) and Isaiah Stewart (12 points, seven rebounds) are good secondary scoring options. Jalen Duren (10.5 points, six rebounds), Tobias Harris, Duncan Robinson, Caris LeVert, Paul Reed, Daniss Jenkins, Javonte Green and Chaz Lanier are expected to be contributors for coach J.B. Bickerstaff. Detroit is 19th in the league in field goal percentage as they shoot 45.5% from the floor as a team. The Pistons are 19th in the league in threes per game as they hit 11.5 triples per contest, while they are 15th in three-point percentage as they connect on 36.5% of their attempts from beyond the arc. Detroit is below average at the charity stripe, ranking 26th by shooting 67.3% at the line as a team.

Jaden Ivey (knee) is expected to be out until mid-November. LeVert (hamstring) and Marcus Sasser (hip) are both doubtful for this contest.

Celtics vs. Pistons Pick

Celtics vs. Pistons Spread Pick

  • Pistons -3.5 (4 units)

This Boston team is nothing like the squad that won the Atlantic Division each of the last four seasons and won the NBA title in the 2023-24 season. Losing Tatum was a big blow, but with Al Horford, Kristaps Porzingis, and others missing from the group, the Celtics have sputtered in the first couple of games this season. Brown and White are questionable here, which could hurt their offensive production even further. Detroit played tough against the Bulls and then took down the Rockets on the road Friday night. Playing at home against an offensively challenged Boston squad, look for Cunningham to lead the Pistons to a home victory.

Celtics vs. Pistons Over/Under Pick

  • Under 227.5 (4 units)

Boston had the third-highest under percentage in the league last season, posting a 50-42-1 mark to the under on the season. The Celtics have split their two games in relation to the total this season, ranking 27th in offensive efficiency, 29th in points per game, and 26th in pace with 96.1 possessions a night in the early going this year. Detroit finished last season posting a 44-42-2 mark, including the postseason, to the over. The Pistons have stayed under the number in both games this season. Detroit stands 19th in offensive efficiency, 25th in scoring offense and 15th in tempo with 100.9 possessions per game. Take the under here as both teams have work to do on the offensive end to consider the over.
