Brooklyn Searches for First Win
The Brooklyn Nets are the only team in the Eastern Conference that has not yet won a game this season, and get one of their best chances on the road here against the Pacers. Brooklyn lost all of their first seven games, with their closest loss being a five-point deficit to the Hawks. The Nets drafted five rookies and kept all of them instead of heading to the trade market on draft night. They need the young talent to pay off for this strategy to work. In their recent loss to the T-Wolves, the Nets were led by Cam Thomas with 25 points.
Thomas is a high-level scorer, but still needs to prove that he can contribute to winning basketball. He leads the team with 24.4 PPG, but is only adding 2.9 APG and 1.6 RPG while playing heavy minutes. Thomas is coming off two strong scoring performances, as he put up 29 on the Sixers and 25 on the T-Wolves in his last two games. Michael Porter Jr. came over from Denver, the former champion is their top outside shooter with 2.8 threes per game, while being their second leading scorer with 20.8 PPG. Nic Claxton is their athletic big man in the middle. The 26-year-old has upped his scoring to 14.1 PPG and adds another 6.7 RPG.
Terance Mann has been starting on the wing. He is a strong defender who can finish above the rim with his 11.4 PPG. Brooklyn ranks 24th in offensive efficiency and 30th in defensive efficiency according to dunksandthrees.com. The Nets rank 27th in the league in possessions per game.

Pacers Need to Regroup
The Indiana Pacers made it all the way to Game 7 of the NBA Finals last season, but do not look the same as they are off to a 1-6 start this year. The most notable loss is Tyrese Haliburton, as he tore his Achilles tendon in the Finals and is unlikely to play at all this season. The season is long, and they still have an impressive win over Steph Curry and the Warriors, but the Pacers need to start winning fast to avoid falling too far behind in the standings. In their last game, Pascal Siakam had 32 points and eight assists in the loss to Milwaukee.
Siakam is also a former champion from his days in Toronto, and the forward still has plenty of game left as he is averaging team highs with 26.0 PPG, 8.4 RPG, and 5.3 APG. He has scored 27 or more in four of his last five games as he has been asked to carry more of the offense with Haliburton out. Benedict Mathurin had two high-scoring games, but is still out of the lineup with a toe injury and will miss this game against the Nets as well. Aaron Nesmith is a physical guard on the wing. He averages another 14.7 PPG and has been knocking down 2.9 threes per game.
Jarace Walker has been thrust into the starting lineup due to an injury to Obi Toppin. Walker is getting 12.1 PPG and 6.3 RPG while starting as the power forward. Indiana is dealing with injuries to several of their role players on top of not having Haliburton. The Pacers are ranked 23rd in offensive efficiency and 19th in defensive efficiency. They rank 2nd in the league in pace of play, based on their number of possessions per game.

Nets vs. Pacers picks
Spread pick and prediction for Nets vs. Pacers
- Nets +6.5 (5 units)
The sun will finally shine on Brooklyn, as the Pacers are dealing with far too many injuries to be able to hold off this hungry Brooklyn team. This game has nothing to do with the Haliburton injury, because the Pacers will still be without Mathurin, Toppin, McConnell, and several other contributing pieces. This is too much to lose, as their depth will be put into question here. Brooklyn is not loaded with talent, but their top two players will still play in this game as Thomas and Porter Jr. will hit the floor, and each has massive scoring potential. Brooklyn played near the spread last time out against Minnesota, and they will jump all over this injured Indiana team here with a chance to get their first win.
Take the Nets to cover.
Over/Under Pick for Nets vs. Pacers
- Under 232.5 (4 units)
The pace of play does not always match the results, as the Pacers play fast, but have not been cashing unders. The Pacers have gone under in five of their last six games. They can play as fast as they want, but it does not matter if they cannot put the ball in the bucket. It is well documented in this article that the Pacers are dealing with devastating injuries to their depth, and they will not be able to put up a big number in this one. The Nets only have two high-level scorers, and as the underdog, they will be willing to play at a slow pace here. Expect a low-scoring, old-school, Eastern Conference battle here.
Take the under.
