Nets are Heating Up
The Brooklyn Nets have won three of their last four games, and are attempting to climb back in to the playoff picture early in this NBA season. Their recent wins have come over the Bucks, Raptors and 76ers, with their lone loss in the stretch coming against the Heat. They are still only 13th in the Eastern Conference, 4.5-games out of the final play-in spot. In their most recent outing, the Nets got 28 points and five rebounds from Michael Porter Jr. in the win over the Sixers.
Porter is a former champion with the Nuggets, and just came over for his first season with the Nets in an offseason trade. He has been the top scorer and outside shooter for Brooklyn, averaging 25.7 points per game and knocking down 3.7 threes per game on 40.1% shooting from the outside. Porter has great size at 6'10 as an outside shooter, and has scored 24 or more in each of his last three games. Cam Thomas is another scorer, but has struggled to remain healthy in recent seasons, he has only played in eight games this year and will miss this one with a hamstring injury. Nic Claxton is an athletic big on this inside, he gets 13.6 PPG and 7.8 RPG in the paint.
Noah Clowney is a 21-year old forward adding 13.4 PPG, while rookie Egor Demin is adding another 9.4 PPG. The Nets rank 26th in offensive efficiency and 24th in defensive efficiency according to dunksandthrees.com. Brooklyn plays at a slow pace, ranking 28th in the league in possessions per game.

Timberwolves Fall on Christmas Night
The Minnesota Timberwolves were awarded a Christmas Night game this season, and put on a show against the Denver Nuggets as the teams combined to score 280 points in an overtime battle. Unfortunately for the Wolves, they fell four points short in the loss, and now head home to take on this Brooklyn team after having Friday off. Minnesota won their previous three games before the Denver matchup, including a strong win over the Thunder. In the Denver game, Anthony Edwards had 44 points in the loss.
Edwards is top ten in the league in scoring with 29.4 PPG, currently ranking 7th overall. He is also an outside shooter, making 3.4 threes per game on 40.1% shooting from the perimeter. Edwards is coming off the 44 point game against the Nuggets, and had 38 in the previous game against New York. Julius Randle is another scoring option for the Wolves, he is getting 22.9 PPG, and has a strong all around game as he contributes another 7.2 RPG and 5.5 APG. Jaden McDaniels is an athlete on the wing, he is the best perimeter defender on the team and brings another 15.2 PPG.
Naz Reid is an excellent 6th man, he is a post player who can also handle the ball on the perimeter while scoring 13.7 PPG. Rudy Gobert is their defensive anchor, grabbing 11.1 RPG while blocking 1.6 shots per game. Minnesota is ranked 9th in offensive efficiency and 4th in defensive efficiency. They play much faster than the Nets, ranking 12th in the league in possessions per game.

Nets vs. Timberwolves Picks and Predictions
Spread pick for Nets vs. Timberwolves
- Timberwolves to cover (4 units)
This is not a game where the Nets matchup well, and will struggle against a Minnesota team hungry for a win after their Christmas defeat. Minnesota is huge inside, as Gobert, Reid and Randle take up space in the middle, and all bring different strengths in their game. This will be too much for Claxton and the Brooklyn bigs to contend with, as Minnesota will control the paint here. Porter Jr. is the biggest scorer on Brooklyn, but the T-Wolves can stick McDaniels on him, using his size to contest shots on the perimeter. Anthony Edwards has been on fire, scoring at least 38 in each of his last two games. Expect him to deliver again here in an easy win.
Take Minnesota to cover.
Over/Under Pick for Nets vs. Timberwolves
- Β Under (4 units)
These teams are loaded with defensive stoppers, and will play at a slow pace leading to an under. Rudy Gobert and Nic Claxton are two defensive minded centers, they will protect the rim on each side of the floor, ensuring there are no easy baskets. Jaden McDaniels is another excellent defender, who will be chasing Michael Porter Jr. around the perimeter all game. Brooklyn plays slow, they are 28th in the league in possessions per game. This is by design, as Brooklyn knows they do not have the offensive firepower to win in high scoring shootouts against most teams. Minnesota has gone under in five of their last six games, they will go under again here.
Take the under.
