Cleveland Begins Road Trek on Monday

The Cleveland Cavaliers begin a quick two-game road trek on Monday evening. Cleveland has not been nearly as dominant as last year, but is six games above .500 and second in the division. The Cavaliers are 4-1 in their past five games. This includes a home loss against the Rockets last week and a home win against the Pacers on Friday. Next, the Cavaliers recorded a 120-105 home win against the Clippers on Sunday to cover the 7.5-point spread. Cleveland shot 52% and kept the Clippers to a 46% mark. The Cavs have covered the spread in two of their past five games.

Donovan Mitchell continues to be a huge threat in most games. The 29-year-old guard has reached 30 points in five of his past six games. He scored 37 points on Sunday and has posted an average of 30.5 PPG on 51% shooting. Mitchell sank 31 against the Raptors earlier this month. Evan Mobley has shot above 53% in three of his past five games. The 24-year-old center is averaging 19 PPG and 9 RPG on the season.

De’Andre Hunter has been solid, amassing 20 points on five occasions in November. The 27-year-old forward has contributed with an average of 18 PPG on the year. Jarrett Allen has sunk 50% of his shots in five of his past six games. The veteran center has yielded just under 15 PPG. He did not play on Sunday due to a finger injury and is questionable. Jaylon Tyson is having a breakout season. The 22-year-old guard has netted 11.3 PPG on 51% shooting..

The Cavaliers stand at 4-1 in their past five road games, including a defeat against the Celtics and a win against the Heat in their most recent road clash. Cleveland is averaging 119.9 points on the season, marking them ninth. The Cavaliers have conceded 1099  or fewer points in three of their past five games. They are holding opponents to an average of 115.1 points, placing them 15th in the NBA

Key Injury Report for Cavs:

  • C Jarrett Allen (finger) is questionable.

Toronto Extends Winning Streak on Sunday

The Toronto Raptors continue a homestand on Monday. Toronto is enjoying its best stretch of the season. They are targeting their eighth straight win in this one. They now stand atop the division. Toronto posted a big road win against the Cavaliers in that current span. The Raptors also posted a dominating 140-110 home win against the Wizards on Friday. The success resumed in a 119-109 home win against the Nets on Sunday in a meeting that had the Raptors marked as 11.5-point favorites. They shot 50% and held the Nets to a 35% efficiency. The Raptors have covered the spread in five of their past six games.

Brandon Ingram has been steady in his first season in Toronto. The veteran forward has scored at least 20 points in three of his past five games. Ingram is sporting an average of 21 PPG and 5.8 RPG. RJ Barrett is also enjoying a strong year. The 25-year-old forward managed 16 points in the win on Sunday and is posting an average of 19.6 PPG on 50% shooting. He was kept to nine points in the first meeting against the Cavaliers and is out due to a knee injury.

Scottie Barnes has been outstanding in the defensive end. The young forward has five double-doubles this month. Barnes has reported an average of 19.2 PPG and 5.1 APG. He dropped 28 points against the Cavaliers 10 days ago. Immanuel Quickly has connected on at least 50% of his shots in three of his past five games. The 26-year-old guard is averaging 15.9 PPG on the year. Sandro Mamukelashvili has scored double digits in all but three games this month. The veteran forward has delivered 10.5 PPG.

Toronto has been dominant at home recently, winning five straight home games. They beat the Grizzlies and Wizards in that span. Toronto is scoring an average of 121 points on the season, ranking them sixth. The Raptors have conceded 112 or fewer points in five of their past six games. The Raptors are keeping opponents to an average of 115 points, placing them 10th in the NBA.

Cleveland vs. Toronto Pick

Spread Pick for Cavaliers vs. Raptors

  • Toronto Raptors +2.5 (5 units)

The Cleveland Cavaliers have not been as sharp as last season so far. Four of their past five wins have been against a team with a losing record. The Toronto Raptors are one of the hottest teams in the entire NBA, winning seven games in a row. They have won five straight home games.

Furthermore,  Cleveland has not been scoring many points and needs their defense to be at its best every game to win, which is not ideal against this hot Toronto offense. Cleveland has scored an average of only 115 points in its past five games. Toronto is shooting a stellar 37.8% from deep. This is key in this matchup. Opponents are shooting 37% from beyond the arc against the Cavaliers, pegging them 25th in the NBA in three-point defense.

Over/Under Pick for Cavaliers vs. Raptors

  • Over 236 (5 units)

I expect a barrage of scoring in this one. Cleveland is a team that prefers to shoot threes. They lead the NBA with an average of 45 three-point attempts per game and can quickly pile on the points. The Cavaliers also play at a quicker pace, ranking eighth in the NBA in tempo.

In addition, the Toronto offense has been its top strength in the winning streak. They have scored 119 or more points in five of their past six games. This includes 126 points in the first meeting against the Cavaliers, in which the over cashed. Toronto connected on 56% of its shots in that meeting and 39% of its shots from deep.
