On Friday, the Cleveland Cavaliers will play the Washington Wizards in NBA Cup group play action at Capital One Arena, and we have you ready to go with our Cavaliers vs. Wizards prediction, odds, and preview. Tip-off from DC is at 7:00 p.m. ET.

The Cavaliers are 13-point spread favorites, and the game total is 239 points scored.

Cleveland won all four of its matchups with Washington last season. The Cavs are 10-0 straight-up and 6-4 against the spread in the previous ten meetings. The under was 7-3 in those games. Cavs regaining their footing after underwhelming start

Cleveland (5-3 SU, 2-6 ATS, and 3-5 O/U) beat Philadelphia 132-121 on Wednesday. The Cavaliers shot 53 percent overall, including 40.9 percent from three-point land, and scored 60 points in the paint. They dominated from start to finish, leading by as many as 26 in a game they never trailed. The 76ers fell behind by 13 at the end of the first and only scored 20 points out of the halftime break in the third.

The Cavs are paced by guard Donovan Mitchell, who erupted for 46 points against Philadelphia. He's averaging 31.9 points on 57.6 percent shooting this season. Cleveland averages 116.5 points per game (18th) with a 45.6 FG percentage (21st) and a 35.6 percent mark (16th) from three-point range. Defensively, the Cavaliers allow 114.8 points per game (9th) on 46.8 percent shooting (14th), including 37.2 percent from deep (24th).

Cleveland dominated the regular season in 2024-25, winning 64 games, two shy of the franchise record. They scored the eighth-most points in NBA history (9,999) and boasted the league's Defensive Player of the Year, Evan Mobley. While unstoppable at times during the regular season, the Cavaliers were battle-weary in the playoffs, losing 4-1 in the conference semifinals. The team didn't tinker much with its roster in the offseason, but traded Isaac Okoro to Chicago for PG Lonzo Ball and signed Larry Nance Jr. for veteran frontcourt depth. If they can stay healthy, there's no denying the Cavs will be among the top contenders this season.

Cleveland Cavaliers Basketball Injury Report: SF De'Andre Hunter (illness) is likely to play in Friday's game against the Wizards. G Lonzo Ball (knee) and FΒ  Dean Wade (eye) are out.

Wizards have a good-looking young player in Sarr

Washington (1-7 SU, 1-7 ATS, and 5-3 O/U) lost 136-107 to Boston on Wednesday, its sixth straight defeat. It was the Wizards' fourth consecutive game with fewer than 110 points, as they committed 19 costly turnovers. The Celtics scored 30 points off those turnovers and knocked down 16 three-pointers.

Center Alex Sarr leads Washington with 19.0 points, 8.4 rebounds, 3.9 assists, and 2.3 blocks per game. The second-year pro shoots 54.0 percent from the floor. The Wizards score 112.0 points per game (26th) on 45.7 percent shooting (20th), including 37.7 percent from beyond the arc (10th). Defensively, Washington gives up 128.3 points per game (30th), and its opponents shoot 48.5 percent (24th), including 36.6 percent from beyond the arc (20th).

The Wizards went 18-64 last season, finishing 15th in the Eastern Conference. Washington was in a clear rebuild, as rookies accounted for 35 percent of the team's minutes. The front office made a few moves to resign and acquire veteran players this offseason, as well. Khris Middleton picked up his player option, and CJ McCollum was brought in via a trade with New Orleans, giving the Wiz two former All-Stars to lead the group. Malcolm Brogdon (free agent), Jordan Poole (trade), and Marcus Smart (waived) were allowed to leave, with youngsters Cam Whitmore (20th pick in the 2023 NBA draft) and Tre Johnson (sixth pick in the 2025 draft) brought in to take their place. Big man Alex Sarr is the centerpiece of the Wizards' rebuild after he averaged 13.0 points, 6.5 rebounds, 2.4 assists, and 1.5 blocks as a rookie.

Washington Wizards Basketball Injury Report:Β Middleton (elbow) has been removed from the Wizards' injury report, while SF Bilal Coulibaly (leg) has been ruled out for Friday's NBA Cup game against the Cavs.

Cavaliers vs. Wizards Pick and Preview

Spread Pick for Cavaliers vs. Wizards

  • Washington +13 (5 Units)

The Wizards are getting too many points in this matchup. They covered the spread in each of their last two matchups with the Cavaliers, losing by ten points in both games. I feel confident they will compete in this NBA Cup game, with Middleton sparking the home team in his return from a two-game absence. The veteran gives Washington a legit three-point threat (career 38.7 3PT%) against a Cavaliers team that has struggled to defend the three-ball. His presence will help guide the young Wizards, as well. I'm also bullish on the outlook for McCollum. He hasn't shot the ball well in his first few games in DC, but he averaged 21.1 points last season and, like Middleton, is a reliable long-range threat (career 39.6 3PT%).

This is Washington's first NBA Cup game, and with Cleveland and Indiana already winless, they'll have a shot to move up the East's Group A standings. The Cavs and Pacers have -11 and -20 point differentials, so if the Wizards can keep the final score within single digits, they'll position themselves well in the Cup standings.

Over/Under Pick for Cavaliers vs. Wizards

  • Over 239 (5 Units)

Washington will play at a high tempo on Friday night, as the home team ranks third in pace with the third-shortest average offensive possession length (13.4 seconds). The Wizards have shot a high percentage (37.7%) from beyond the arc despite McCollum's struggles and should hit plenty of threes against the Cavs' soft three-point defense. With an efficient long-range attack and Sarr's scoring presence inside the arc, Washington has enough offensive weapons to keep up with Cleveland on the scoreboard.

Cleveland will likely pour on the points against a weak Wizards defense, building off its 132-point game against Philly. Mitchell has been a marksman this season, with a 72.4% true shooting percentage and 45.5% mark from beyond the arc. His usage rate is on par with the last few seasons, too, so it's not as if he's dominating the basketball. Washington ranks dead last in opponent turnovers and 29th in defensive rating. After losing once in group play, the Cavs will explode offensively on Friday to attempt to make up for their negative point differential in the NBA Cup standings. Bet on the over.
