Two Eastern Conference bottom feeders go head-to-head as the Brooklyn Nets (3-16) host the Charlotte Hornets (6-14) on Monday to kick off December. These teams last met on opening night, when Charlotte rolled to a 136–117 home victory.

Hornets off consecutive wins
After dropping seven straight, the Charlotte Hornets finally built some momentum over the weekend with back-to-back wins, 123–116 over the Chicago Bulls on Friday and 118–111 in overtime against the Toronto Raptors on Saturday.
Miles Bridges leads the team with 22.4 points per game, including a 35-point team-high on Saturday. LaMelo Ball is averaging 19.5 points, 8.5 assists, and 1.2 steals, but he has already missed seven games.
Charlotte ranks 19th in offensive efficiency and 25th in defensive efficiency. The Hornets are 19th in scoring at just under 116 points per game, 22nd in field-goal percentage, and 24th in three-point percentage. Their biggest strength is at the free-throw line, where they shoot 83%, good for fourth in the NBA.
Defensively, the Hornets allow 120.2 points per game (24th), rank dead last in opponents’ three-point percentage, and are second-to-last in opponents’ field-goal percentage.
Nets don't do much well
The Brooklyn Nets enter the matchup ranked 26th in offensive efficiency and 29th defensively. They’ve lost four straight and are coming off a 116–99 defeat in Milwaukee on Saturday. Rookie Danny Wolf, who has seen limited playing time so far, posted a career-high 22 points.
Michael Porter Jr., acquired in the offseason from Denver, leads the team with 24.2 points per game, but he’s listed as questionable for Monday with back issues. The Nets have also been without Cam Thomas, who averaged 21.4 points per game, for all but eight games. He’s expected to be re-evaluated in another 3–4 weeks due to a left hamstring strain.
Brooklyn gives up 119.3 points per game (23rd) and ranks dead last in opponents’ field-goal percentage allowed, as well as second-to-last in opponents’ three-point percentage. Offensively, they’re even worse: dead last in scoring at 108.4 points per game, 29th in field-goal percentage, 26th in three-point percentage, and 18th at the free-throw line (77.8%).

Hornets vs Nets ATS Pick:
-
Hornets -4.5 (4 units)
I’m winning or losing this one with the Hornets. Both teams have been terrible, but Charlotte is at least showing signs of life with two straight wins and covers. On the other side, Brooklyn has failed to cover in its last three losses.
With LaMelo Ball back and Bridges playing at a high level, Charlotte’s offense is the strongest unit in this matchup. With both defenses struggling badly, I’ll back the Hornets to get it done offensively.
Hornets vs Nets Total Pick:
-
Over 227.5 (4 units)
These teams combined for 253 points on opening night, and while that was over a month ago, this matchup still screams offense. Both defenses have been awful, and even though each team has trended under recently, that actually creates a buy-low spot on the total.
With these two inefficient defenses on the floor and the Hornets pushing the pace, I expect more scoring than usual.
