Bulls vs Nets Key Matchups and Handicap

This is the third meeting in the last three weeks between the Nets and Bulls, and the first two games showed just how quickly the script can flip. Brooklyn earned a 112-109 home win in mid-January, and Chicago returned the favor with a 22-point win two nights later.

That back-and-forth is exactly why this matchup deserves a deeper handicap. Both teams are on equal rest after playing on Saturday, and both come in with storylines that matter at the betting window.

The Nets broke a three-game losing skid with a 14-point home win over the short-handed Wizards. Brooklyn has also been competitive against the spread in recent weeks, going 10-9 ATS since January 4.

Chicago, meanwhile, is still trying to stabilize as the new-look roster needs time to figure things out. The Bulls have gone 1-7 straight-up and 1-7 ATS over the last eight games, and they are coming off a 16-point home loss to the Nuggets.

The biggest concern for Chicago during this skid has been defense. Over the last eight games, the Bulls have allowed an average of 125.0 points per game, which makes it extremely difficult to trust them in any matchup unless the opponent is compromised offensively.

That is where this game becomes interesting. Chicago has been a tough team to trust, but there is absolutely no interest in backing Brooklyn without Michael Porter Jr. and Egor Demin.

The Nets are a different team when Porter Jr. is on the court vs when he is not. The former Nugget is averaging 25.0 points and 7.2 rebounds per game, and the Nets' roster is not deep enough to fill his missing production.

Brooklyn is 1-9 straight-up when Porter Jr. is out of the lineup, with the only win coming against Utah. In the ten games without Porter Jr., the Nets have scored an average of 100.2 points per game.

That is not going to be enough to cover this number against the Bulls, even with Chicago struggling. If Brooklyn cannot score efficiently, Chicago should have enough offensive stability to create separation, especially in a matchup where the Bulls already showed they can blow the Nets out when things break right.

The total is also worth targeting. Four of the last five meetings between these teams have stayed under the number, and the Nets' offensive ceiling drops significantly when Porter Jr. is not available.

Four of the last five meetings between the Bulls and Nets have stayed under the total.

Brooklyn has gone 10-9 against the spread since January 4.

Chicago has gone 1-7 straight-up and 1-7 ATS over the last eight games.

During Chicago's eight-game skid, the Bulls have allowed an average of 125.0 points per game.

In the ten games without Michael Porter Jr., Brooklyn has scored an average of 100.2 points per game.

CHI and BKN Key Injuries and Notes

ATS and Total Picks

  • ATS Pick: Bulls -4
  • Total Pick: Under 223.5

Final Score Prediction

This matchup sets up as a game where Chicago does not need to be perfect, it just needs to be functional. With Brooklyn expected to be without its most important scorer and with the Nets averaging just 100.2 points per game in those situations, the Bulls should be able to take advantage even with their recent defensive issues.

Chicago has already proven in this mini-series that it can blow Brooklyn out when it finds rhythm, and the Nets' offense is simply too limited without Porter Jr. to keep pace for four quarters.

  • Projected Final Score: Bulls 114, Nets 106

How to Bet

If you are betting Bulls vs Nets, the most important angle is roster-driven. Chicago has not been trustworthy lately, but this is one of the rare spots where the matchup itself can cover up a lot of flaws. Brooklyn without Michael Porter Jr. is a completely different offense, and the numbers reflect that with the Nets going 1-9 straight-up when he is out.

That is why the best approach is to prioritize Chicago on the spread and then lean under on the total, as Brooklyn has struggled to generate points when the lineup is missing its top scorer.
