The Bulls hope to snap their two-game skid
The Chicago Bulls (17-19; 18-18 ATS; 16-19-1 O/U) have gone 2-4 SU and ATS over their last six outings and will try to avoid their third consecutive SU and ATS defeat on Wednesday night. In their previous two contests, the Bulls suffered a 112-99 home defeat against the Charlotte Hornets and a 115-101 road loss at the Boston Celtics.
Last Saturday, the Bulls blew a 15-point lead against the Hornets. Chicago hit just 11 of its 41 shots from downtown. Two days later, the Bulls went 16-for-46 from downtown against the Celtics, but Chicago scored only 33 points in the first half.
Nikola Vucevic had 28 points, eight assists, and seven rebounds last Saturday. Against Boston, Vucevic double-doubled with 15 points and 15 rebounds, while Matas Buzelis scored 26 points. Josh Giddey (19.2 PPG, 9.0 APG, 8.9 RPG) missed four straight games with a hamstring injury and will be re-evaluated in a week.
The Bulls score 114.5 points per 100 possessions (22nd in the NBA) and surrender 118.2 points in return (tied for 21st). They rank 16th in the league in 3-point percentage (35.9%) and fifth in assists per 100 possessions (28.6).
The Pistons eye their third straight W
The Detroit Pistons (27-9; 20-16 ATS; 17-19 O/U) have dropped three of their previous six games (3-3 ATS), but they will aim for their third consecutive SU and ATS victory when the Bulls come to town. In their last two showings, the Pistons beat the Cleveland Cavaliers 114-110 on the road and the New York Knicks 121-90 at home.
The Pistons made just 41.0% of their field goals in Cleveland last Sunday, but they outscored the Cavaliers 47-28 in the second quarter. On the second day of a back-to-back, the Pistons trounced the Knicks, making 54.6% of their field goals (16-for-31 from downtown).
Cade Cunningham accounted for 27 points and seven assists against the Cavs. He tortured the Knicks for 29 points and 13 assists, while the Pistons’ second unit added 58 points. Cunningham has been terrific this season, averaging 26.7 points, 9.6 assists, and 6.3 rebounds.
The Pistons score 117.6 points per 100 possessions (9th in the NBA) and allow 111.0 points in return (2nd). They cannot count on Jalen Duren (17.9 PPG, 10.6 RPG) and Tobias Harris (13.4 PPG) due to injuries.
Bulls vs. Pistons Pick
Spread Pick for Bulls vs. Pistons
- Detroit Pistons (4 units)
Despite missing Jalen Duren and Tobias Harris, the Pistons dominated the Knicks two days ago. Detroit’s defense continued to impress, forcing the Knicks into 20 turnovers. The Pistons are second in the league in defensive turnover percentage (14.9%) and opposing 2-point percentage (51.3%), and I expect their defense to make the difference when the Bulls visit.
The Bulls have struggled to score in their last two outings. Josh Giddey’s absence is a huge blow for Chicago. The Bulls’ defense has struggled for most of the season, so I can only look at the Pistons in this game.
The last time they met, Detroit beat Chicago by 11 points despite missing Cade Cunningham, Jalen Duren, Tobias Harris, Ausar Thompson, and Jaden Ivey. The Bulls were without Josh Giddey.
Over/Under Pick for Bulls vs. Pistons
- Under (4 units)
The Bulls play at the third-fastest pace in the NBA, tallying 102.3 possessions per 48 minutes. They love to push the ball in transition, but as I said, Josh Giddey’s injury is a huge blow for the Bulls. Giddey is a key part of the Bulls’ offensive scheme and a primary playmaker.
On the other side, the Pistons register 100.4 possessions per 48 minutes (13th). Detroit leans on its sturdy defense and doesn’t rely on 3-pointers a lot (27th in the league in 3-point rate). Hereof, I would take the under. Four of Detroit’s last five games overall and six of Chicago’s previous eight have gone under the total.
