Cleveland Seeking to Extend Win Streak

Cleveland ran their win streak to four games as it took down Chicago at home in their previous contest on Saturday. The Cavaliers entered Sunday night 7-3 on the season and stood second in the Central Division, half a game behind the Pistons for the top spot. Against Chicago Saturday night, Cleveland led by three after the opening quarter, trailed by as many as 19 in the first half, and by 16 at intermission. The Cavaliers sliced the deficit to two after three quarters and by six with 1:47 remaining before scoring the game’s final 12 points to earn the win. Cleveland shot 48.9% from the field, including 17 of 46 from three-point range, and was beaten 49-39 on the glass in the game. De’Andre Hunter and Donovan Mitchell (six rebounds, six assists) each had 29 points to lead the Cavaliers in the win.

The Cavaliers come into this one ranked 7th in the league in scoring offense as they put up an average of 120.7 points per game this season. Evan Mobley (20 points, 8.5 boards, 4.2 assists), Jarrett Allen (15.1 points, 7.8 rebounds) and De’Andre Hunter (18.4 points, 5.3 rebounds) are solid secondary options. Jaylon Tyson (11.3 points), Dean Wade, Larry Nance Jr., Lonzo Ball, Tyrese Proctor, Thomas Bryant, Sam Merrill (15 points), Darius Garland (14 points, 6.5 assists), Craig Porter Jr. and Luke Travers are other contributors in the Cavaliers’ rotation. Cleveland is 20th in the league in field goal percentage as they shoot 46.2% from the floor as a team on the year. The Cavaliers are 1st by knocking down an average of 16.6 three-pointers a night, while they are 14th by connecting on 36.6% of their attempts from beyond the arc. Cleveland is below average at the charity stripe as they rank 22nd by shooting 76.7% from the line as a team.

Max Strus (foot) remains out indefinitely. Nance (knee) missed Saturday’s game and is questionable here. Watch for updates on his status leading up to tip-off.

Heat Looking to Pick Up Home Victory

Miami won both halves of a back-to-back set as they took down Portland at home Saturday night in their previous contest. The Heat entered Sunday 6-4 and held a one-game lead over the Hawks for the top spot in the Southeast Division. Against Portland, Miami trailed by 12 early and by three after the opening quarter before rallying to lead by seven at intermission. The Heat led by as many as 12 in the third quarter, saw the lead trimmed to three after three quarters and needed a 7-0 run late to break a 127-127 tie en route to the win. Miami shot 51% from the field, including 10 of 35 from three-point range, and forced 20 turnovers to offset losing the rebounding battle 57-47. Nikola Jovic paced the Heat with 29 points, nine rebounds, and seven assists in the win.

The Heat entered Sunday 2nd in the league in scoring offense with 124.1 points per game this season. Miami is 16th in the league in rebounding with 43.3 boards a contest while the team stands 2nd in assists by dishing out 30.4 dimes a night. The Heat stands 18th in the league in scoring defense as they allow 118 points per game. Norman Powell leads the Heat with 23.3 points and 4.6 rebounds per game. Bam Adebayo (19.9 points, 8.1 rebounds), Jaime Jaquez Jr. (17.1 points, seven rebounds, five assists), Simone Fontecchio (11.2 points) and Andrew Wiggins (17.3 points, 4.6 rebounds) are secondary scoring options. Nikola Jovic (10.5 points, 4.4 rebounds), Kel’el Ware (9.7 points, 7.7 rebounds), Davion Mitchell, Dru Smith, Keshad Johnson and Pelle Larsson are solid role players for the Heat. Miami is 5th in the league in field goal percentage as they shoot 49.9% from the floor this season. The Heat stands 13th in threes per game by draining 13.6 triples per contest and the team is 7th in three-point shooting by hitting 38.1% from beyond the arc. Miami is above average at the free-throw line, ranking 12th in the league by converting 79.4% of their chances this season.

Terry Rozier was placed on leave by the league as part of an ongoing gambling probe. Tyler Herro (ankle) is expected to be out until late December. Adebayo (toe) has been ruled out for this contest.

Cavaliers vs. Heat Pick

Cavaliers vs. Heat Spread Pick

  • Cavaliers -6.5 (4 units)

Both teams are playing their third game in four nights and their fourth game in six nights here, so fatigue will take a toll on both squads. Miami is a perfect 4-0 at home this season, but playing without Adebayo is concerning for them. That is accentuated by the fact that Herro is still out for at least another few weeks at this stage, taking two proven scoring options out of the mix. Cleveland has been inconsistent on the road, and they have dealt with injury issues as Mitchell, Allen, Garland and Merrill have all missed time already, while Strus has yet to suit up for the year. The Cavaliers are a solid offensive team, and that, coupled with the Heat’s injury situation, takes Cleveland in this contest.

Cavaliers vs. Heat Over/Under Pick

  • Under 246.5 (4 units)

Cleveland stands 7th in the league in scoring offense, 8th in offensive efficiency and 9th in tempo with an average of 102 possessions per game. The Cavaliers have stayed under the number in five of their 10 games and have stayed under the mark in two of five road games this season. Miami has seen the over hit in six of their 10 games this season, including two of their four home games. The Heat stand second in the league in points per game, 13th in offensive efficiency, and first in tempo with 105.9 possessions a game. We have two explosive offensive teams, but this game winds up falling short of the total without Adebayo in the mix
