LA is an injury-riddled squad
Los Angeles (4-10 SU, 4-10 ATS, and 8-6 O/U) lost 110-108 to Philadelphia on Monday, the third game in its season-long seven-game road trip. LA is 1-5 on the road (3-3 ATS) this season and 2-8 straight-up in its last ten games overall, but has covered the spread in three straight.
The Clippers covered small spreads in a close win over Dallas and in narrow defeats to Boston and Philly. In Monday's two-point road loss, they shot just 40 percent from the field, including 12-for-39 (31%) from beyond the arc, but knocked down 26 of their 27 free throws. Los Angeles led by as many as 13 points, but the 76ers used a 14-3 run in the fourth quarter to close the gap and rally for the win. The ex-Sixer James Harden, who scored 41 points and 37 points in the previous two games, missed a couple of threes in the final seconds.

With G Kawhi Leonard injured (foot sprain/ankle sprain), Harden is LA's top scoring option. The Arizona State product is averaging 26.2 points, with 8.7 assists and 6.3 rebounds per game. A few other Clippers to watch against the Magic are C Ivica Zubac (16.0 PPG and 10.8 RPG), F John Collins (11.9 PPG and 4.8 RPG), and G Bogdan Bogdanovic (9.6 PPG and 3.4 APG). Los Angeles scores 111.7 points per game (25th) on 47.3 percent shooting (14th), while its opponents average 116.4 points (17th) on 46.9 percent shooting (16th).
The Clippers went 50-32 last season, finishing 5th in the West. They went on an 18-3 run before the playoffs, but couldn't sustain their momentum, losing in the first round. Beal was among the team's biggest offseason additions, but the 32-year-old will be out for the remainder of the season after undergoing hip surgery earlier this week. LA also traded for Collins and signed G Chris Paul and C Brook Lopez to bolster their depth around Leonard and Harden. The result is a team loaded with veterans, but will they be on the court enough to make the Clippers a serious contender?
Los Angeles Clippers Basketball Injury Report:
- Leonard (foot) is questionable.
- F Derrick Jones Jr. (knee) is out.
- Beal (hip) was recently ruled out for the remainder of the season.
Magic have turned a corner following a 1-4 start to the season
Orlando (8-7 SU, 7-8 ATS, and 8-7 O/U) beat Golden State 121-113 as 2.5-point underdogs on Tuesday. The Magic are 7-3 both straight-up and against the spread in their last ten.
Orlando has won four of its last five, with its lone loss coming in overtime at Houston. The Magic won with a team effort against the Warriors, as six players scored at least 13 points, led by G Desmond Bane's 23. Both teams shot over 50 percent from the floor, but Orlando outscored Golden State 64-46 in the paint and added 28 points in transition. The Magic score 115.9 points per game (21st) on 47.1 percent shooting (15th), while their opponents average 113.9 points (7th) on 46.7 percent shooting (15th).
Orlando was 41-41 last season, finishing seventh in the East. The team had momentum after winning 47 games the prior season, but injuries derailed their progress, as Paolo Banchero, Franz Wagner, Jalen Suggs, and Moe Wagner all missed time. The Magic were still among the top defensive squads in the NBA, ranking third in defensive rating with elite on-ball defense and defensive rebounding. Wagner leads the team in scoring this season, averaging 22.8 points with 6.4 rebounds per game. A few other Magic players to watch against the Clippers are Bane (16.9 PPG and 4.5 APG), C Wendell Carter Jr. (12.7 PPG and 7.7 RPG), and Suggs (12.5 PPG, 4.7 APG, and 1.6 SPG).
With better health, Orlando figures to be competitive in the EC title chase in 2025-26. The front office let go of a few veteran players, including Cole Anthony and Kentavious Caldwell-Pope, but also made several under-the-radar moves to improve the team. The biggest addition was the Memphis guard Bane, who averaged 19.2 points and 5.3 dimes last season. A career 40.7 percent three-point shooter, Bane brings shooting touch to a Magic backcourt that was sorely missing long-range accuracy (last in 3PT%). F Tristan da Silva (11.9 PPG) and G Anthony Black (11.7 PPG) are also playing significant minutes this season, helping build the team's depth.
Orlando Magic Basketball Injury Report
- BancheroΒ (groin) has been ruled out for Thursday's game against the Clippers.
- C Mo Wagner (knee) remains without a timetable to return to the court.
Clippers vs. Magic Pick and Preview
Spread Pick for Clippers vs. Magic
- Orlando to cover (4 Units)
Los Angeles may have covered its last three, but it's in the midst of its longest road trip of the season. It's a veteran-led team, with older players who are more likely to have weary legs halfway through the trip. The Clippers' depth has also taken a hit with the recent injuries to Beal, Leonard, and Jones. Now, they'll face a hot Magic team that will be eager to force the visitors to defend without fouling (Orlando ranks 1st in free-throw attempt rate) and box out (LA ranks 29th in total rebounding and 21st in opponent offensive rebounding). Even without Banchero, the Magic will score enough in the paint (5th in rim shot attempt rate), but they have also increased their three-point attempt rate in his absence (up to 42.5% the last three games), which is a sound strategy for beating LA's weak perimeter defense (38.3% 3PT% allowed).
The Clippers won or kept the score close in the first three legs of their road trip, but they won't on Thursday in Orlando.
Over/Under Pick for Clippers vs. Magic
- Under (4 Units)
Betting Trend: The under is 8-1-1 in the last ten matchups between Los Angeles and Orlando.
Neither team is healthy, with star players sidelined for both teams. The Clippers and Magic haven't been offensive juggernauts even at 100 percent this season, either. With both squads preferring a slower pace β Orlando ranks 22nd and Los Angeles is 29th β Thursday's game projects to be low-scoring. Even without Banchero, the home team is one of the league's top defensive teams (2nd in defensive rating), but it will miss his scoring presence on Thursday. The Clippers' lack of depth will hurt them on the road, as they don't generate enough second-chance buckets or free throws to overcome it.
