Clippers are coming off an upset win
Los Angeles (8-21 SU, 10-19 ATS, and 15-14 O/U) beat Houston 128-108 on Tuesday as seven-point underdogs. LA shot 55 percent from the floor, including 20-for-37 from beyond the arc. The Rockets scored 60 in the paint and won the rebounding battle (+8 margin with 15 offensive rebounds), but were inefficient from three-point range (9-for-30).
James Harden is LA's top scoring option. The Arizona State product is averaging 25.8 points, with 8.2 assists and 5.2 rebounds per game. A couple of other Clippers to watch against the Trail Blazers are G Kawhi Leonard (25.2 PPG and 6.1 RPG) and F John Collins (12.5 PPG and 4.8 RPG). Los Angeles scores 111.2 points per game (28th) on 47.1 percent shooting (13th), while its opponents average 115.7 points (14th) on 47.6 percent shooting (21st).

The Clippers went 50-32 last season, finishing 5th in the West. They went on an 18-3 run before the playoffs, but couldn't sustain their momentum, losing in the first round. Beal was among the team's biggest offseason additions, but the 32-year-old will be out for the remainder of the season after undergoing hip surgery earlier this week. LA also traded for Collins and signed G Chris Paul and C Brook Lopez to bolster their depth around Leonard and Harden, but recently let go of CP3. The result is a team loaded with veterans, but will they be on the court enough to make the Clippers a playoff contender?
Los Angeles Clippers Basketball Injury Report:
- C Ivica Zubac (15.6 PPG and 11.1 RPG) is out.
Trail Blazers are dealing with several injuries
Portland (12-18 SU, 14-13-3 ATS, and 18-12 O/U) lost 110-106 to Orlando on Tuesday, pushing as four-point spread underdogs. The Trail Blazers, who are 4-6 in their last ten games (4-4-2 ATS), are led by F Deni Avdija, who averages 25.5 points with 7.1 rebounds and 6.6 assists per game. Portland scores 117.1 points per game (15th) with a 44.6 FG percentage (29th), including 33.0 percent from three-point distance (29th). The Blazers' opponents average 120.5 points per game (25th) on 47.6 percent shooting (19th), including 35.8 percent from beyond the arc (16th).
Portland went 36-46 last season, finishing 12th in the Western Conference and missing the NBA Playoffs. Still, there was a lot for fans to feel cheerful about. The Blazers turned it on after the All-Star break with a 23-18 record, missing the Play-In Tournament by just three games. The 15-win improvement from the previous season was fueled by the breakouts of Shaedon Sharpe and Avdija, as well as stout defensive play.
The Trail Blazers solidified their roster by adding veteran players during the offseason. PG Jrue Holiday (16.7 PPG and 8.3 APG) was acquired via a trade with Boston, bringing a championship pedigree, and former Blazers star Damian Lillard was signed, as well. While Portland fans won't be on "Dame Time" until next season, he and Holiday will be helpful behind the scenes, guiding the team's young core. Deandre Ayton's exit also opened up the door for second-year center Donovan Clingan (10.4 PPG and 10.4 RPG this season) to make a bigger impact.
Portland Trail Blazers Basketball Injury Report:
- Holiday, F Jerami Grant, and G Matisse Thybulle are day-to-day.
Clippers vs. Trail Blazers Pick and Preview
Spread Pick for Clippers vs. Trail Blazers
- LA covers spread (5 Units)
The Clippers have been a disappointment, but they can still surprise you, as they did last game against Houston. While not stout defensively, they rank just outside the top ten in offensive efficiency. They're 6th in rim shooting percentage and should score plenty of buckets inside the arc against Portland (16th in opponent 2PT%). The Clippers are especially tough to keep off the scoreboard when they get to the charity stripe, as they rank 2nd in free-throw percentage and are just outside the top ten in free-throw attempt rate.
Portland's injury report is long, while Los Angeles will be without only Zubac. Bet on the visitors to cover the spread!
Over/Under Pick for Clippers vs. Trail Blazers
- Under (5 Units)
If LA is going to cover, it will likely be in a low-scoring game. The Clippers rank 29th in pace and 29th in offensive possession length this season. The Trail Blazers don't allow their opponents to attempt many threes (third-lowest opponent 3PT attempt rate), which could make Los Angeles a bit too one-dimensional at times, as well. With the home team dealing with several injuries, their offense is unlikely to be as sharp as usual, too. These teams will play a competitive, lower-scoring game on Friday in Portland. Bet on the under!
