The 2025 Emirates NBA Cup continues with an 11-game slate on Black Friday, so we are taking a closer look at the West Group B showdown from Crypto.com Arena in Los Angeles, CA, to get you the Mavericks vs. Lakers prediction.

The Mavericks meet the Lakers for the first time this season. They played a three-game set in 2024-25, and the Lakers went 2-1 SU and 1-2 ATS. Purple-and-Gold are firm 10.5-point favorites for Friday’s clash, while the total sits at 230.5 points.

The Mavericks continue to struggle

The Dallas Mavericks (5-14; 8-11 ATS; 6-13 O/U) have yet to win consecutive games in 2025-26. They’ve dropped four of their previous five contests overall and are coming off Monday’s 106-102 defeat at the Miami Heat.

The Mavericks erased a 13-point deficit in Miami. They tied the game at 102-102 with 1:04 left on the clock, but couldn’t find a way to come out on top. The Mavs shot just 39.2% from the field (12-for-40 from deep), and P.J. Washington led the way with 27 points and eight rebounds.

Anthony Davis (20.8 PPG, 10.2 RPG) missed his 14th straight game with a calf injury, and he’s questionable for Friday’s game against the Lakers. Kyrie Irving is still recovering from a knee injury, while Dereck Lively is out with a foot injury.

The Mavericks’ offense has been brutal this season. Dallas tallies just 105.4 points per 100 possessions (30th in the NBA) on 52.3% shooting from inside the arc (tied for 24th) and 31.8% from downtown (29th). At least, the Mavs allow 111.1 points per 100 possessions (3rd).

The Lakers continue to roll

The Los Angeles Lakers (13-4; 12-5 ATS; 11-6 O/U) extended their winning streak to five games this past Tuesday. They cruised past the LA Clippers 135-118, covering a 6.5-point spread in front of the home audience.

The Lakers made 57.5% of their field goals last Tuesday. They went 13-for-29 from deep and 22-for-26 from the foul line while committing just 11 turnovers. Luka Doncic tortured the Clippers for 43 points, 13 assists, and nine rebounds, and Austin Reaves had 31 points and nine boards.

Doncic averages 35.2 points, 9.2 assists, and 8.8 rebounds. The Lakers score 118.4 points per 100 possessions (7th in the NBA) and surrender 114.9 points in return (tied for 16th). They are second in the league in effective field goal percentage (57.7%).

Deandre Ayton missed the Clippers game due to a knee injury. He’s considered day-to-day, while all other guys are ready to go.

Spread Pick for Mavericks vs. Lakers

  • Los Angeles Lakers -10.5 (5 units)

The Mavericks are trying their best on defense, but I’m not sure they will be able to slow the Lakers down. LeBron James is back, and the Lakers now look like a top-notch offensive unit. They love to attack the rim and get to the foul line, and the Mavericks allow 25.9 free throws per game (22nd in the NBA).

Even if Anthony Davis returns, I will lay 10.5 points with the Lakers. They are not a great defensive team, but the Mavericks’ offense has been horrendous thus far. Dallas is 3-5 ATS in its previous eight games overall, while the Lakers are 4-1 ATS in their last five.

The Lakers have already clinched West Group B. On the other side, the Mavericks have been eliminated from the knockout contention.

Over/Under Pick for Mavericks vs. Lakers

  • Under 230.5 (5 units)

The Mavericks record 102.3 possessions per 48 minutes (3rd in the NBA), but as I said, their offense is the most inefficient in the league. The Lakers register 99.9 possessions (19th in the NBA), and they don’t lean on 3-pointers a lot (22nd in 3-point rate).

Both teams are turnover-prone, so I will go with the under. Eight of their previous nine encounters have gone under the total. Also, the under is 5-0 in the Mavericks’ last five games overall, and it is 4-2 in the Lakers’ previous six.
