Dallas Snaps Four Game Skid

The Dallas Mavericks recently lost four straight games, but finally brought that streak to an end as they defeated the Rockets in their last game. Their losing stretch included three road games against the Warriors, Kings and Blazers, and then a home game against the 76ers before finally defeating the Rockets. Dallas is currently 11th in the Western Conference, 2.5-games out of the final playoff spot. In their last game, Dallas got 26 points and 12 rebounds from Anthony Davis in the win over Houston.

Davis has battled injuries throughout his NBA career, but when he is healthy he has proven that he is clearly the top player on this Dallas team. He is averaging 20.4 PPG and 10.8 RPG though his 18 games this season, and recently put up 35 points and 17 boards against the Pelicans in a win. Cooper Flagg is improving his case to be Rookie of the Year in the league, the promising prospect is getting 18.9 PPG, 6.4 RPG and 4.1 APG as a 19-year old forward. PJ Washington has stepped up to become the third scorer for Dallas, he is averaging 14.7 PPG and 7.4 RPG as an outside shooting forward.

Kyrie Irving is still out for Dallas, which has led to the team turning to young guards Max Christie (12.3 PPG) and Brandon Williams (11.6 PPG) to lead the offense from the outside. Dallas is ranked 28th in offensive efficiency and 17th in defensive efficiency according to dunksandthrees.com. The Mavericks are 3rd in the league in possessions per game, as they play at a fast pace.

Kings Lose Five Straight

The Sacramento Kings have attempted to hold on to their top players and rebuild in the draft, but the strategy has not worked as they kept their top stars, but are still only 8-28 on the season. They are only a half game ahead of the Pelicans for last place in the Western Conference, and would need a fast turn-around to make themselves viable for the postseason. The Kings have lost each of their last five games by ten or more points.

In their last game, the Kings were led by Russell Westbrook with 21 points in their loss to the Bucks. Westbrook is a future Hall of Famer, but no longer has the ability to carry a franchise, and Sacramento does not expect that from their veteran point guard. Westbrook is getting 14.6 PPG and 6.9 APG while starting in the backcourt. Zach Lavine is their top scorer, but the team has been playing him off the bench in recent games, he is scoring 20.2 PPG and will likely come off the bench here as well. DeMar DeRozan is another guard with a strong resume, he is averaging 18.3 PPG while scoring most of his points in the midrange.

Domantas Sabonis has been one of the best kept secrets in the NBA the past few seasons, but will miss this game with his knee injury. Sacramento is ranked 30th in offensive efficiency and 27th in defensive efficiency. The Kings play slower than the Mavericks, ranking 14th in the league in pace of play.

Mavericks vs. Kings Picks and Predictions

Spread pick for Mavericks vs. Kings

  • Mavericks -5.5 (5 units)

These teams are both dealing with plenty of injuries, but the Mavericks still have enough fire power to cover this number on the road. The biggest issue in this game will be that the Kings are without Sabonis, while the Mavericks have Anthony Davis healthy and ready for this matchup. Sacramento started Maxime Raynaud inside last game, and while the young product out of Stanford may be a promising piece for the Kings, he will get dominated by Anthony Davis in this one. Cooper Flagg also continues to improve every game, and the Mavericks will have too much in this one as the Kings suffer another defeat.

Take the Mavericks to cover.

Over/Under Pick for Mavericks vs. Kings

  •    Under 230 (4 units)

The Kings are in disarray, the management group thought they could part ways with De'Aaron Fox and bring in LaVine and DeRozan and make it work, but the formula has been off. Most importantly, Domantas Sabonis is out for an extended period, and he may have been the glue to this entire Sacramento offense. LaVine has come off the bench recently, and the Kings have been a mess. Dallas will play this game at a slow pace, they focus the offense around Anthony Davis, and still do not have a top tier point guard to step in for Kyrie. Expect a slow paced game here.

Take the under.
