Mavs are finally playing up to expectations
Dallas has won five of their last six games, with the only loss coming against Oklahoma City (132-111) on Dec. 5. Anthony Davis (calf) is still on the injury report, but his return in all five December games has made a big difference. He's averaging 20.8 points and 12.0 rebounds in those games and has allowed rookie Cooper Flagg to flourish. Flagg is now shooting 55.4% from the field and is averaging 20.6 points per game in December.
Davis had 24 points and Flagg scored 22 in Friday's 119-111 win over Brooklyn on Friday. Dallas is 21st in Adjusted Net Rating on DunksandThrees.com. They also rank 28th in Adjusted Offensive Rating and 7th in Adjusted Defense. Dallas still has F Daniel Gafford (ankle) on the injury report. He's out along with G D'Angelo Russell (illness). C Dereck Lively II (foot) is out for the season due to foot surgery.
George leads Utah over Memphis
Utah last played on Friday, and they edged Memphis on the road, 130-126 as a 7.5-point dog. That win halted a two-game losing streak for Utah. Keyonte George scored a career-high 39 points, while making five 3-pointers and 10-of-10 from the line.

George is having an outstanding season, averaging 22.9 points, 6.8 assists. Lauri Markkanen, whose name has been brought up in trade rumors, leads the Jazz with 27.6 points, adding 6.7 rebounds per game. Utah's top rebounder was 7-foot Walker Kessler, who averages 14.4 points and 10.8 rebounds, before suffering a season-ending shoulder injury. He also helped protect the paint and Utah's defense has been awful without him. They rank 29th in Adjusted Defense on DunksandThrees.com, while ranking 21st in Adjusted Offense and 29th in Adjusted Net Rating.

Mavericks vs. Jazz Prediction and Pick
- Dallas -1.5 (5 units)
Dallas is a different team with Davis back in the lineup. Jusuf Nurkic is the replacement for Kessler at center and he's a rugged old-school center, without the length to be able to defend Davis. George has been playing great for Utah, but expect Dallas to use multiple players, including Flagg, to slow him down. Dallas needs to win games like these if they hope to get back into the Western Conference playoff race. Flagg's improved play on offense makes this Dallas team difficult to defend, with veterans like P.J. Washington and Klay Thompson who can provide sparks on offense.
Over/Under Pick for Mavs vs. Jazz
- Over 239.5 (4 units)
Utah's defense is dreadful, but they also rank fourth in the NBA in pace of play. Dallas ranks seventh and athletic players like Flagg love to push the ball in transition. Dallas has gone over in three straight and four of their last five games. Utah has gone over in four of their last five games.
