The Nuggets play without rest
Tuesday’s games have been excluded from the analysis, and the 7-2 Denver Nuggets visited the Sacramento Kings on Tuesday night, searching for their fifth straight victory. The Nuggets just finished a four-game homestand with a 4-0 SU and 3-1 ATS record.
During their winning streak, the Nuggets have beaten the Sacramento Kings 130-124, the Miami Heat 122-112, the Golden State Warriors 129-104, and the Indiana Pacers 117-100. Nikola Jokic continues to impress, tallying 25.2 points, 13.0 rebounds, and 11.9 assists per game this season.
Jamal Murray (22.8 PPG, 5.6 APG) and Aaron Gordon (20.1 PPG, 5.4 RPG) sat out the Pacers game last Saturday, but they were expected to play Tuesday against the Kings. The Nuggets ranked third in the NBA in adjusted offensive efficiency (122.7 points per 100 possessions) and second in adjusted defensive efficiency (109.7) on Tuesday morning.
The Clippers are slumping big-time
The Los Angeles Clippers are winless in five straight outings, and four of those five defeats have come at Intuit Dome. The Clippers haven’t covered once during their losing streak, and their latest loss was against the Atlanta Hawks 105-102 this past Monday.
James Harden posted a triple-double of 35 points, 11 assists, and 10 rebounds against Atlanta, but he didn’t get a lot of help from his teammates. The Clippers shot 43.9% from the field (12-for-38 from deep) and handed out just 19 assists.
Kawhi Leonard (24.3 PPG) missed four straight games with a sprained ankle and will probably remain on the shelf for a few more days, while Bradley Beal (hip) is questionable for Wednesday’s clash against Denver. Beal didn’t play against Atlanta, and the three-time All-Star is tallying just 8.2 points per game this season.
Nuggets vs. Clippers Pick
Spread Pick for Nuggets vs. Clippers
- Denver Nuggets -1.5 (5 units)
The Clippers have struggled a lot thus far, scoring 113.9 points per 100 possessions (21st in the NBA) and yielding 119.3 points in return (25th). They allow 15.7 3-pointers per game (tied for 29th) on a 39.4 percentage clip (tied for 27th). Moreover, the Clippers turn the ball over on 15.2 percent of their possessions (30th).
The Nuggets will have to deal with fatigue on the second night of a back-to-back, but there’s no way I’m going to back the slumping Clippers. LA is 0-8 ATS in its last eight games overall and 0-6 ATS in its previous six showings on the home court.
Over/Under Pick for Nuggets vs. Clippers
- Under 225.5 (5 units)
The Nuggets play well on both sides of the ball. They register 100.1 possessions per 48 minutes (tied for 18th in the NBA), while the Clippers play at the slowest pace in the league, tallying 95.6 possessions per 48 minutes.
Denver won’t look to speed things up. The Nuggets will try to control the glass and take full advantage of LA’s defensive shortcomings. Denver doesn’t rely on 3-pointers a lot (26th in 3-point rate), so I’m going with the under in this game.
The Clippers’ interior defense is not bad, though LA allows the third-most assists per game (28.5). Each of their last three contests has gone under the total.
