Denver Gets First Win
The Denver Nuggets are back this season with an updated roster that features some familiar faces and a couple of new pieces in hopes of making another run to the Finals. They lost their opening game to Steph Curry and the Warriors, but were able to bounce back in their second outing by dismantling the Suns by 22 points. All five starters scored at least 14 points in the game for Denver, led by Jamal Murray with 23 points, six rebounds, and five assists in the victory.
Murray is their point guard who has been with the team since their championship run two years ago. He stepped up his game in the postseason, but surprisingly, he has yet to make an All-Star roster. Murray has scored efficiently to start this season, as he had 25 in the opener and followed that up with another 23 points against Phoenix. Aaron Gordon put on a show in the first game of the season, as he hit ten of his eleven three-point attempts on his way to a 50-point game. Gordon caught a 360-alley oop in his second game, dropping another 17 points in the process. Nikola Jokić is still in the running for the best player in the game. He has had a triple-double in each of the first two games, most recently going for 14 points, 14 rebounds, and 15 assists against the Suns.
Christian Braun is their athletic two-guard in the starting lineup, and Cameron Johnson was brought in to replace Michael Porter Jr. Johnson is an outside shooter, but is only 2-9 from deep through the first two games. Their biggest impact players off the bench so far have been newcomers to the roster, big man Jonas Valanciunas, and the versatile Bruce Brown.

Timberwolves Host Back-to-Back
The NBA season is now in full swing, and the Minnesota Timberwolves have already been scheduled for their first back-to-back just a week into the year. Minnesota beat Indiana by four on Sunday, led by Julius Randle's 31 points and now faces Denver on Monday. Anthony Edwards played just three minutes in the game due to a hamstring injury and is questionable on Monday night. Donte DiVincenzo stepped up with 17 points in his absence, while Naz Reid scored 16 points and grabbed 10 boards off the bench.
Minnesota split their first two games before facing Indiana; it opened with a four-point win in Portland over the Blazers, then lost in Los Angeles against the Lakers. In the Laker game, Anthony Edwards had 31 points, but the team still lost by 18.
Edwards is their 24-year-old shooting guard who has already made three All-Star Teams after being selected number one overall by Minnesota in 2020. He led the team in scoring in each of their first two games, dropping 41 on the Blazers before putting up another 31 against the Lakers. JRandle also had a big night against the Lakers; he went for 26 points and nine rebounds against his former team. Randle plays the power forward spot and has worked to improve his three-point shooting to allow Rudy Gobert to hang around the rim for offensive rebounds and put-backs.
Donte DiVincenzo starts in the backcourt, taking over the ball-handling duties that are shared with him and Edwards. Jaden McDaniels is their three-and-D small forward. He is an excellent athlete and their best perimeter defender. Naz Reid and Jaylen Clark have been their top scorers off the bench to start the year.

- Nuggets to cover (4 units)
Playing a back to back in the NBA is never ideal, but doing it within the first four games of the season, and dealing with the bruising Denver Nuggets on the second night makes matters worse for the T-Wolves. Denver has a punishing frontline with Jokic and Gordon, and the two big men couldn't have started the 2025 season much better. Jokic has back to back triple-doubles, while Gordon proved his can shoot from deep by hitting 10 of his 11 threes on the opening night. Minnesota has to deal with the Pacers on Saturday and Edwards may be missing this game. Cameron Johnson will find his rhythm as he gets more games with the Nuggets under his belt. Denver will beat up on the tired T-Wolves in this one.
Take the Nuggets to cover.
Over/Under Pick for Nuggets vs. Timberwolves
- Under
Minnesota only scored 110 against Los Angeles last time out, and the Luka Doncic-led Lakers are not known for their defensive prowess. Minnesota's starting lineup is still heavily reliant upon Anthony Edwards creating offense and he might be out or hampered by a hamstring injury, as they start three players who are not big scorers in McDaniels, Gobert and DiVincenzo. Denver will use their post presence in this game, as Jokic and Gordon need time to get down the floor to make plays. Jokic will often handle point guard duties, and initiate offense for Denver; this is a solid strategy for the Nuggets, but it does not speed up their offense. Minnesota may go deeper in their bench in this tail end of the back to back, which is yet another reason to take the under here.
Take the under.
