The Nuggets continue to lean on Nikola Jokic
The Denver Nuggets hosted the San Antonio Spurs on Friday night, searching for their second win on the spin. Last Monday, the Nuggets beat the Memphis Grizzlies 125-115 on the road to bounce back from a shocking 128-123 home defeat against the Sacramento Kings.
Jamal Murray tortured the Grizzlies for 29 points and eight assists. Peyton Watson scored 14 of his 27 points in the third quarter, while Nikola Jokic posted his 10th triple-double in 2025-26, notching 17 points, 16 assists, and 10 rebounds.
Jokic has been unstoppable this season, averaging 29.6 points, 12.8 rebounds, and 11.1 assists. Jokic is making his teammates better, and Watson has scored in double digits in four of his last six games. The Nuggets boast the highest offensive rating in the NBA (124.3 points per 100 possessions).
Denver misses a couple of important players. Both Aaron Gordon (18.8 PPG, 5.9 RPG) and Christian Braun (11.4 PPG, 4.4 RPG) will miss at least four weeks due to injuries.
The Suns are having a nice season
The Phoenix Suns visited the mighty Oklahoma City Thunder on Friday, playing as huge 14.5-point underdogs. The Suns have won four of their previous five contests. After stopping their three-game win streak with a 114-92 defeat to the Houston Rockets, the Suns beat the Sacramento Kings 112-100 on the road.
The Suns outscored the Kings 41-16 in the first quarter and never looked back. Mark Williams posted a monster 21-point, 16-rebound double-double to go with four assists and three steals, while Collin Gillespie had 21 points and nine assists.
Devin Booker leads the way for Phoenix with 26.0 points and 6.9 assists per game, and Dillon Brooks adds 21.3 points a night. The Suns tally 117.3 points per 100 possessions (12th in the NBA) while surrendering 113.1 points in return (10th).
Phoenix continues to impress despite missing Jalen Green (15.5 PPG) and Grayson Allen (18.5 PPG). Green will be sidelined for a few more weeks, while Allen was listed as doubtful for Friday’s clash against Oklahoma City.
Nuggets vs. Suns Pick
Spread Pick for Nuggets vs. Suns
- Denver Nuggets (4 units)
It’s the back end of a back-to-back set for both teams, and I’m looking at Mark Williams, who missed the Suns’ previous outing on the second day of a back-to-back. Should Williams hit the sidelines, the Suns will be in trouble in this game.
Without Williams, Phoenix won’t be able to contain Nikola Jokic in the paint. Williams didn’t play against the Nuggets in October, and Denver outscored Phoenix 62-34 in the paint. Jokic scored just 14 points, but he dished out 15 assists and pulled down 14 rebounds.
Even with Williams in the lineup, the Suns will have a tall task in this matchup. Their defense has been solid this season, but I’m not sure their interior defense is good enough to slow Denver down.
Over/Under Pick for Nuggets vs. Suns
- Under (4 units)
The Nuggets allow 114.3 points per 100 possessions (14th in the NBA), but they are third in the league in opposing 3-point percentage (32.0%). This is important because the Suns are ninth in 3-point rate (.445) and fourth in 3-point percentage (37.9%).
Both teams record 99.0 possessions per 48 minutes (tied for 24th). On the second day of a back-to-back, I don’t expect them to run up and down the floor a lot. The Suns need to bring their best defense if they want to beat the Nuggets, so I will take the under. Seven of their last 10 encounters have gone under the total.
