Detroit Pistons (24-6) vs. Utah Jazz (10-19)

The NBA betting action continues Friday, December 26, 2025, with nine games around the Association, including the cross-conference showdown at Delta Center in Salt Lake City, UT, so we have prepared the Pistons vs. Jazz prediction.

Detroit and Utah wrap up their two-game regular-season set. Last month, the Pistons beat the Jazz 114-103 as 9.5-point home favorites, and the game went under the 233.5-point line. Now, the Pistons are looking for their third straight victory over the Jazz.

The Pistons eye their fourth straight victory

The Detroit Pistons have won seven of their previous eight games overall while going 4-4 against the spread. After putting an end to their four-game winning streak with a 116-114 overtime defeat at the Dallas Mavericks, the Pistons strung together three wins against the Charlotte Hornets 112-86, the Portland Trail Blazers 110-102, and the Sacramento Kings 136-127.

Last Tuesday, the Pistons outscored the Kings 37-24 in the first quarter and never looked back, but they ultimately failed to cover a 9.5-point spread. Detroit went 14-for-32 from downtown while outscoring Sacramento 70-48 in the paint. Tobias Harris accounted for 24 points, and Cade Cunningham double-doubled with 23 points and 14 assists.

Cunningham leads the way for the Pistons, averaging 26.4 points and 9.4 assists. Jalen Duren tallies 18.5 points and 11.1 rebounds per game, and Harris adds 14.0 points and 4.9 boards a night. The Pistons score 117.6 points per 100 possessions (tied for 8th in the NBA) while yielding 110.8 points in return (2nd).

The Jazz hope to stop their four-game slide

The Utah Jazz have only won two of their previous eight games overall and are winless in four straight outings. During that four-game stretch, the Jazz have suffered defeats against the Los Angeles Lakers 143-135, the Orlando Magic 128-127 in overtime, the Denver Nuggets 135-112, and the Memphis Grizzlies 137-128.

Last Tuesday, the Jazz failed to cover a 4-point spread in front of the home fans. They shot just 44.4% from the field (16-for-45 from downtown) while allowing the Grizzlies to make 55.7% of their field goals (19-for-45 from deep). Kyle Filipowski led the charge for Utah with 25 points and 13 rebounds, and Keyonte George had 24 points and four assists.

George tallies 23.9 points and 6.8 assists per game. Lauri Markkanen averages 27.8 points and 7.1 rebounds, and he sat out the Grizzlies game with a groin injury. The Jazz rank 14th in the league in adjusted offensive efficiency (115.4 points per 100 possessions) and 29th in adjusted defensive efficiency (122.7).

Pistons vs. Jazz Pick

Spread Pick for Pistons vs. Jazz

  • Detroit Pistons (4 units)

Tuesday’s clash against Memphis was the second leg of a back-to-back set, so the Jazz decided to hold Lauri Markkanen out for groin injury management. I expect Markkanen to play on Friday, but there’s no way I’m going to back the Jazz against this Detroit team.

The Pistons are one of the best defensive teams in the league, whereas Utah’s defense has been horrendous this season. The Jazz are 28th in the league in both opposing 2-point percentage (58.1%) and opposing 3-point percentage (38.1%).

Detroit doesn’t lean on 3-pointers (27th in 3-point rate), but the Pistons will attack the paint all night and torture the Jazz. In their first meeting this season, the Pistons outscored the Jazz 60-36 in the paint. Utah is eighth in 3-point rate. However, the Jazz make just 34.9% of their shots from deep (20th).

Over/Under Pick for Pistons vs. Jazz

  • Over (4 units)

I will take the over despite the Pistons’ sturdy defense. Utah has allowed a whopping 543 points over its past four outings (135.7 per game), and Detroit should easily surpass a 120-point mark in this matchup.

The Jazz love to play fast, recording 102.1 possessions per 48 minutes (tied for 3rd in the NBA), and the Pistons register 100.6 possessions per 48 minutes (11th). Moreover, both teams are in the top five in the league in free-throw rate. When they locked horns in November, Detroit and Utah combined for 51 free-throw attempts.

The over is 8-2 in Utah’s last 10 games overall, whereas the under has hit in four of Detroit’s last five showings at any location.
