Pacers can't catch a break
Indiana will be playing the second night of a back-to-back after losing 128-108 to the Atlanta Hawks on Friday in an NBA Cup matchup. The Pacers reached the NBA Finals last season, pushing the Oklahoma City Thunder to seven games, but things have changed quickly.
Tyrese Haliburton was already expected to miss the entire season following Achilles surgery in the offseason, but the injury list goes far beyond their star point guard. T.J. McConnell, Kam Jones, Bennedict Mathurin, Andrew Nembhard, Johnny Furphy, and Obi Toppin are all currently sidelined.

In Fridayโs loss, Pascal Siakam led the Pacers with 18 points, followed by Jarace Walker with 17. With so many players out, Indiana recently signed three-time NBA Slam Dunk Contest champion Mac McClung, who scored 12 points against the Hawks.
Through five games, the shorthanded Pacers rank 28th in offensive rating and 15th in defensive rating. They are averaging 112.2 points per game (25th) while shooting just 31.2% from 3-point range (28th). Defensively, they are allowing 123.6 points per game, which ranks 26th in the league.
Warriors looking to keep dynasty alive
The Warriors were off Friday after falling 120-110 to the Milwaukee Bucks on Thursday night. Stephen Curry led the way with 27 points in the loss and continues to pace the team this season at 27 points per game after six games. Jimmy Butler is second with 21.7 points per game, followed by Jonathan Kuminga, who is averaging 17.5 points and 7.5 rebounds.
Golden State ranks ninth in offensive rating and 12th in defensive rating. The Warriors are averaging 119 points per game (13th) and are shooting 39.8% from 3-point range (seventh). Defensively, they are allowing 116 points per game (13th).
Unlike the Pacers, Golden State is not coming in with any major injuries.
Golden State Warriors vs Indiana Pacers Prediction
ATS Pick for Warriors vs. Pacers:
- Warriors -10.5 (3units)
With nearly half the roster injured, the Pacers are overmatched right now against almost everyone they face. Mathurin led the team with 31 points per game through the first two contests, but with him out, even more pressure falls on Siakam, and he can't carry this team alone.
Indiana should compete early, but with them playing on the second night of a back-to-back, I expect fatigue to set in late. This could be a potential letdown spot for Golden State, but they are healthy and coming in with more rest. Laying double-digits on the road is not ideal, but expect Steph Curry and company to pull away down the stretch and cover the spread.
Total Pick for Pacers vs. Warriors
- Under 232.5 (4 units)
Indiana will want this game to be ugly, and the Warriors, who rank 29th in pace, may play into that for a while. Since Bennedictย Mathurin went down, the Pacers havenโt scored more than 110 points and remain one of the leagueโs weaker offensive teams and rank dead-last in field goal percentage.
I don't expect fireworks on both sides. I'm expecting something in the range of a 121-108 Golden State win, and will take the under.
