Houston Wins Six of Seven
The Houston Rockets have found chemistry in their big lineup and have reeled off wins in six of their last seven games. Their lone loss came in a three-point deficit against Nikola Jokic and the Nuggets. The Rockets find themselves 4th in the Western Conference, but are unlikely to advance in the NBA Cup as they have already dropped two games in the Group Stage. In their last game, Houston was led by Amen Thompson with 28 points in the win over Phoenix.
Thompson is their athletic 22-year-old guard with potential through the roof. He can play any position one through four in a pinch, and has improved his offensive game this season. Thompson is averaging 17.9 PPG to go with his 6.4 RPG and 5.2 APG. On the other end of the age spectrum, Kevin Durant leads the way in scoring on the season for Houston with 24.6 PPG. Durant has stepped away from the team for two games for personal reasons and will miss this game against the Warriors. Alperen Sengun continues to improve; he is averaging 22.4 PPG and 9.7 RPG. Sengun has a good feel for the game offensively and is averaging 7.1 APG out of his position in the post.
Jabari Smith Jr. was the number three overall pick in 2022, and is still just 22 years old. He has been scoring 15.1 PPG this season. Reed Sheppard and Josh Okogie will likely round out the starting lineup with Durant away from the team. The Rockets rank 5th in offensive efficiency and 2nd in defensive efficiency according to dunksandthrees.com. Houston ranked 27th in the league in possessions per game, playing at a slow pace.
Warriors Close Out Group Play
The Golden State Warriors will more than likely be playing their final game in the NBA Cup this season, as they have a 1-2 record and a negative 27-point differential. Despite this, the Warriors have still been strong at home this season, posting a 6-1 record in the Bay, and now get to take on this Rockets team that will be without Durant. Golden State snapped a three-game losing streak last time out, defeating Utah behind 31 points from Steph Curry in the win.
Father Time has not defeated Steph Curry yet, as the 37-year-old continues to lead his team in scoring with 28.8 PPG. The three-point shot has not gone by the wayside either, as he is knocking down 4.8 threes per game on 40.4% shooting from deep. Steph has scored 30 or more in three straight games coming into this one. Jimmy Butler is next up in scoring, getting 20.1 PPG and still being a pest on the defensive end. Jonathan Kuminga is unlikely to go here, as he has been bothered by a knee injury that will likely 131keep him out of the lineup.
Draymond Green is listed as a game-time decision here with a foot injury. Two key contributors who will be available in this one are Brandin Podziemski (12.4 PPG) and Moses Moody (12.3 PPG). Golden State is ranked 8th in offensive efficiency and 4th in defensive efficiency. They have been playing faster than Houston, ranking 14th in the league in pace of play.

Rockets vs. Warriors Picks and Predictions
Spread pick for Rockets vs. Warriors
- Warriors -1.5 (5 units)
They Warriors have not been great in the NBA Cup, but they have been great at home, where they have won six of their seven games on their home floor. On top of this, the Rockets are battling injuries that will challenge them in both scoring and rebounding. Durant will miss this game, taking away their top scorer, but also the loss of Adams and Eason cannot be ignored, as they are two of the tougher interior players for Houston. Sengun is still there, but Draymond Green takes pride in being able to battle him on the interior, and all signs are pointing to Draymond playing here. Curry and Butler will be on the floor, and that will be enough to carry Golden State to the win here.
Take the Warriors to win and cover.
Over/Under Pick for Rockets vs. Warriors
- Over 224.5 (4 units)
This is an NBA Cup game, which means that each team will battle it out until the last second, trying to run up the score on each other in one last hope of making a tie breaker with point differential. Both of these teams are 1-2 in group play, but not yet mathematically eliminated, so they will keep pushing the offense until the final buzzer. Golden State has been playing fast, they have always gotten up and down the floor quickly in the Steph Curry era, and not much has changed as they have gone over in four of their last five games. Houston is down a few interior defenders, which will make life easier at the rim for Golden State.
Take the over.
