Rockets Looking to Earn Second Straight Win

Houston picked up their first win of the season as it trounced the Nets at home on Monday in their previous contest. Against Brooklyn, Houston led by two with 2:48 to play in the opening quarter but reeled off an 18-0 run to take a 45-25 lead in the opening minute of the second quarter. Alperen Sengun (25.7 points, eight rebounds, 6.7 assists, two steals), Amen Thompson (13.3 points, four boards, 4.7 assists) and Jabari Smith Jr. (12.7 points, five rebounds) are solid options on the offensive end of the floor. Josh Okogie, Reed Sheppard (11 points, 4.3 assists), Steven Adams, Tari Eason and Clint Capela have to contribute for coach Ime Udoka for the team to have success. Houston is 16th in field goal percentage as they shoot 46.8% as a team from the floor. Toronto Trying to Snap Skid

Toronto dropped their third straight game after a season-opening win over Atlanta as they were downed by San Antonio in the second game of a back-to-back Monday night. The Raptors fell to 1-3 on the season and stand tied for third in the Atlantic Division, 2.5 games behind the 76ers for the top spot. Against San Antonio, Toronto trailed 10-2 just over two minutes into the game and never got even after that. The Raptors trailed by as many as 22 in the contest as they went down in defeat. Toronto shot 46.8% from the field, including 12 of 32 from three-point range, lost the rebounding battle 44-20 and allowed San Antonio to shoot 58.1% in the game. RJ Barrett paced the Raptors with 25 points in the loss.

This season, Toronto stands 10th in scoring offense as they put up an average of 121.5 points per game on the season. The Raptors are 27th in rebounding with 39.5 boards a night, while they are 2nd by dishing out an average of 30.8 assists a night. Toronto stands 25th in scoring defense as they allow an average of 125 points a night this season. Brandon Ingram is second on the team with 20.3 points plus six rebounds per game. RJ Barrett (21.5 points, five rebounds), Scottie Barnes (20 points, 6.3 rebounds, five assists) and Immanuel Quickley (15.3 points, 4.8 rebounds, seven assists) are good secondary scoring options. Gradey Dick (13 points), Jakub Poeltl (10 points, 5.5 rebounds), Jamal Shead, Sandro Mamukelashvili, Jamison Battle, Ochai Agbaji and Jonathan Mogbo are looked at to provide some sort of secondary scoring punch. The Raptors are 7th in the league in field goal percentage as they shoot 50.7% from the floor as a team. Toronto stands 26th by knocking down 10.5 three-pointers a night, while they are 16th in three-point field goal percentage as they sink 35.9% of their attempts on the season. The Raptors are struggling at the charity stripe as they are 25th in shooting 74.1% as a team this season.

Poeltl (back) is doubtful for this game.

Rockets vs. Raptors Pick

Rockets vs. Raptors Spread Pick

  • Rockets -5.5 (4 units)

Houston picked up their first win of the season by dismantling the Nets. The Rockets now face a Raptors squad that has dropped three straight games and is playing its third game in four nights here. Toronto looked dismal against San Antonio and seemed unable to grab a rebound as they were hammered in all facets of the game. The Raptors are at home for this contest, and they have had issues on the defensive end of the floor. Toronto is 29th in field goal percentage defense (52.4%), and that leaves Durant and Sengun primed for a big outing. Take the Rockets in this contest as they hand the Raptors a fourth straight defeat.

Rockets vs. Raptors Over/Under Pick

  • Over 231.5 (4 units)

Houston has seen the over post a 2-1 mark in their three games on the season. The Rockets are sixth in offensive efficiency and fifth in offensive efficiency despite ranking last in the league in terms of tempo with 94.5 possessions per game on the year. Toronto has gone over the mark in three of its four games this year. The Raptors are 10th in the league in scoring offense, 16th in offensive efficiency, and 3rd in tempo by averaging 106 possessions a night. With as leaky as the Raptors are defensively, Houston should take advantage of their issues, and that pushes this game over the number.
