Pacers vs. Nuggets Matchup
The Pacers are off to a horrible start
After reaching the NBA Finals this past summer, the Indiana Pacers had high hopes for the 2025-26 season. However, the reigning NBA vice-champions have dropped seven of their first eight contests while struggling with injuries.
Tyrese Haliburton will miss the entire season while recovering from surgery on his right Achilles tendon. T.J. McConnell is still recovering from a hamstring injury, while Obi Toppin will miss some time with a foot injury. Quenton Jackson (hamstring) is sidelined, too, while Bennedict Mathurin (toe) and Andrew Nembhard (shoulder) are both questionable for Saturday’s game against Denver.
Pascal Siakam leads the way for the Pacers with 25.6 points, 8.1 rebounds, and 5.9 assists per game. The Pacers are coming off Wednesday’s 112-103 home loss to the Brooklyn Nets, and Siakam double-doubled with 23 points and 10 dimes. It was Brooklyn’s first win of the season and Indiana’s second loss in a row.
The Nuggets continue to lean on Nikola Jokic
The Denver Nuggets were looking for their third straight victory on Friday night. In their previous two outings, the Nuggets have beaten the Sacramento Kings 130-124 and the Miami Heat 122-112. Denver will close down a four-game homestand on Saturday.
The Nuggets committed just eight turnovers against the Kings last Monday, and Nikola Jokic tortured Sacramento for 34 points and 14 assists. Two days later, Jokic posted a line of 33 points, 16 assists, 15 rebounds, and three steals against the Heat.
Jokic has already recorded five triple-doubles this season. Jamal Murray tallies 24.1 points and 5.3 assists per game, while Aaron Gordon adds 20.4 points and 5.7 rebounds a night. The Nuggets have no injury worries, though they might decide to rest some of their players on the second night of a back-to-back.
Pacers vs. Nuggets Pick
Spread Pick for Pacers vs. Nuggets
- Denver Nuggets (4 units)
The Nuggets take the floor without rest, but it’s hard to back the injury-depleted Pacers, who just lost to the lowly Nets by nine points. Indiana scores just 106.6 points per 100 possessions (28th in the NBA), whereas Denver boasts the second-highest offensive rating, tallying 121.8 points per 100 possessions.
Denver plays to win, not to cover the spread, but I have to go with the Nuggets in this game. Their defense has been solid thus far, and the Nuggets’ offense should be too much for the shorthanded Pacers. Hopefully, the Nuggets won’t underestimate the Pacers, who are 5-3 against the number this season.
Over/Under Pick for Pacers vs. Nuggets
- Under (4 units)
The Pacers record 102.1 possessions per 48 minutes (8th in the NBA). However, their offensive execution has been pretty bad. The Pacers are dead last in the NBA in both 2-point percentage (47.7%) and 3-point percentage (30.9%).
The Nuggets lead the league in opposing 3-point percentage (31.9%) while tallying 100.8 possessions per 48 minutes (tied for 15th). They rank third in defensive rebound percentage (78.2%). I expect the Nuggets to show the Pacers down and slow things a bit on the second night of a back-to-back. Give me the under.
