Jazz are playing a back-to-back
Utah (10-19 SU, 15-14 ATS, and 19-10 O/U) lost 137-128 to Memphis on Tuesday and hosted Detroit on Friday. The Jazz were 4-6 SU and 5-5 ATS in their previous ten games. The over was 8-2.
The Jazz went 17-46 last season, finishing 15th in the Western Conference and failing to make the postseason field for the third straight season. It has been a disappointing stretch for fans, as the franchise appeared to be on the come-up just a few years ago with Donovan Mitchell and Rudy Gobert leading the team. Utah had three 50-plus win seasons from 2016 to 2021, but never advanced further than the conference semis. The stars from that team are elsewhere, replaced with new homegrown players tasked with rebuilding in the loaded West.
While they haven't been more competitive this season, the Jazz feature several new faces. Jordan Clarkson (waived), John Collins (trade), and Collin Sexton (trade) are gone, and Jusuf Nurkić (trade), Kyle Anderson (trade), Kevin Love (trade), and Georges Niang (trade) are in. The new veterans support the core, which is headlined by All-Star forward Lauri Markkanen, who is averaging 27.8 points and 7.1 rebounds this season. The rest of the group is young, but talented, featuring nine former first-round draft picks. The most recent of that bunch is forward Ace Bailey, the fifth overall pick, who is scoring 10.7 points per game on 44.1 percent shooting.
Utah Jazz Basketball Injury Report:
- F Georges Niang (foot) is out.
Spurs are a legit threat in the Western Conference
San Antonio (23-7 SU, 18-11-1 ATS, and 16-14 O/U) beat Oklahoma City in consecutive games earlier this week. The Spurs have won five straight and are 8-2 SU (6-4 ATS) in their last ten. The total went over in six of those games.
F Victor Wembanyama leads San Antonio in scoring at 23.7 points with 11.8 rebounds and 3.1 blocks per game. A few Spurs to watch against the Jazz are G De'Aaron Fox (21.6 PPG and 6.2 APG), G Stephon Castle (18.6 PPG, 7.0 APG, and 5.3 RPG), G Devin Vassell (15.8 PPG and 4.1 RPG), and G Dylan Harper (12.2 PPG and 3.9 APG).
San Antonio averages 120.4 points per game (4th) and shoots 48.6 percent from the field (6th), including 36.7 percent from three (8th). The Spurs allow 113.6 points per game (8th) on 46.6 percent shooting (12th), including 36.2 percent from beyond the arc (17th). They are 5th in NET rating, including 5th in offensive rating and 9th in defensive rating, per Dunks and Threes.
San Antonio Spurs Basketball Injury Report:

Jazz vs. Spurs Pick and Preview
Spread Pick for Jazz vs. Spurs
- San Antonio covers (4 Units)
Betting Trends: The Jazz are 3-7 ATS as road underdogs, while the Spurs are 7-3-1 ATS as home favorites this season. San Antonio is also 10-6-2 ATS with one day of rest.
After consecutive double-digit wins against OKC as betting underdogs, the Spurs have gained significant momentum. They led for most of both games, scoring 112 combined points in the paint. The home team should have no trouble getting buckets at the rim against a Utah squad that ranks 28th in rim defense. The Jazz also rank last in mid-range defense and 28th in three-point defense. The Spurs have covered the spread in four of their last five games, winning by an average point differential of 19.8 points. I don't expect Utah to hang with San Antonio on the road in the second game of a back-to-back.
Over/Under Pick for Jazz vs. Spurs
- Under (4 Units)
Utah is a fast-paced team, but I expect the Jazz to play with less tempo on Saturday after playing Detroit and flying to San Antonio. The Spurs are a slower-paced team (17th in the NBA) and will look to dictate the style of play at home. After a couple of challenging matchups with the defending champion Thunder, I expect them to play more conservatively against the uncompetitive Jazz, leaning more on their defense to put them away. This won't be a close game, and San Antonio is likely to rest its starters late in the second half with more competitive games against Cleveland and New York up next.
The under is 7-4 when the Spurs are betting favorites at home. Bet on that outcome in Saturday's game.
