The Jazz went 17-46 last season, finishing 15th in the Western Conference and failing to make the postseason field for the third straight season. It has been a disappointing stretch for fans, as the franchise appeared to be on the come-up just a few years ago with Donovan Mitchell and Rudy Gobert leading the team. Utah had three 50-plus win seasons from 2016 to 2021, but never advanced further than the conference semis. The stars from that team are elsewhere, replaced with new homegrown players tasked with rebuilding in the loaded West.

The new veterans support the core, which is headlined by All-Star forward Lauri Markkanen, who is averaging 27.8 points and 7.1 rebounds this season. The rest of the group is young, but talented, featuring nine former first-round draft picks. The most recent of that bunch is forward Ace Bailey, the fifth overall pick, who is scoring 10.7 points per game on 44.1 percent shooting.
