The pieces haven't fit together this season in Sacramento
Sacramento (5-16 SU, 7-13-1 ATS, and 10-11 O/U) lost 115-107 to Memphis in its previous game. The Kings have lost three straight and are 2-8 (3-7 ATS) in their last ten games. The under went 7-3.
SG Zach LaVine paces the Kings in scoring, averaging 20.7 points on 49.1 percent shooting. The 30-year-old also averages 3.2 rebounds per game and shoots 37.8 percent from three-point distance. A few other Sacramento players to watch against the Rockets are G DeMar DeRozan (18.4 PPG and 3.6 APG), G Russell Westbrook (13.6 PPG, 7.1 RPG, and 6.8 APG), and G Malik Monk (13.2 PPG).
The Kings score 111.8 points per game (26th) on 46.5 percent shooting (17th), including 35.5 percent from three-point range (19th). The Sacramento defense allows 123.0 points per game (27th) on 49.9 percent shooting (28th), including 35.2 percent from beyond the arc (10th). They are 25th in NET rating, including 24th in offensive rating and 25th in defensive rating, per Dunks and Threes.
Sacramento Kings Basketball Injury Report:
- PG Dennis Schroder (hip) is questionable.
- F Domantas Sabonis (17.2 PPG and 12.3 RPG) is out (knee).
Rockets are legit Western Conference title contenders
Houston (13-4 SU, 12-5 ATS, and 10-7 O/U) played Utah on Monday after beating the Jazz 129-101 on Sunday. The Rockets are 8-2 SU/7-3 ATS in their previous ten games, and the over/under was split 5-5. They score 121.6 points per game (4th) on 48.2 percent shooting (10th), and their opponents average 109.9 points (2nd) on 45.3 percent shooting (5th). Houston is 2nd in NET rating this season, including 2nd in offensive rating and 2nd in defensive rating, per Dunks and Threes.
H-Town was 52-30 last season, finishing second in the West, but its strong regular-season performance didn't carry over into the playoffs, as the Rockets were bounced in the first round by Golden State. The poor postseason showing spurred changes in the offseason, as the front office decided the team's core wasn't strong enough to make a serious run in the coming seasons.
The biggest splash came via a seven-team trade, as the future Hall-of-Famer Durant was brought in to take the Rockets to new heights. Atlanta big man Clint Capela was also acquired in the historic deal, with Houston shipping away Dillon Brooks, Jalen Green, and future draft picks to Phoenix. The move boosted the team's roster without breaking up its young core of Alperen Sengun, Amen Thompson, Jabari Smith Jr., and Reed Sheppard.
Houston Rockets Basketball Injury Report:
- No new injuries to report.
Kings vs. Rockets Pick and Preview
Spread Pick for Kings vs. Rockets
- Rockets -15.5 (4 Units)
Sacramento is better rested, as Houston had just one day off after a back-to-back, but both games were against six-win Utah. They will have an edge on both ends of the court on Wednesday night against Sacramento, which has lost three straight by double digits. The Kings are soft in the paint, ranking 30th in opponent rim FG%, especially with Sabonis sidelined. The Rockets will take full advantage, shooting above their season average. That will boost their scoring potential, as they are also second in the NBA in three-point percentage and 1st in offensive rebounding rate. On the other end of the court, the home team will challenge the visitors to score from the perimeter, as they rank 4th in mid-range defense and 8th in three-point defense. The Kings are an average offensive team around the rim, but even less so without their big man.
Bet on Houston to cover the spread on Wednesday!
Over/Under Pick for Kings vs. Rockets
- Under 231 (4 Units)
Houston is among the slowest-tempo teams in the league, ranking 27th in pace. The Rockets will be especially content taking their time on offense after playing a back-to-back on Sunday and Monday, which is already their preferred style of play (longest average offensive possession length in the NBA). I feel confident that Houston will lean on its defense against the offensively-challenged Kings, as they don't need to put up a ton of points to outlast them. With consecutive games against Utah (twice) and Sacramento, they have a chance to coast through this stretch of their schedule, as well. It's unlikely that the visitors will keep the score close, which will also help keep the scoring low, as the home team will take its foot off the pedal late in the second half.
The under is 7-3 in the Kings' last ten games. I favor a wager on that outcome in Wednesday's clash with the Rockets.
