Knicks were humbled by Miami on Sunday
New York (2-1 SU, 2-1 ATS, and 1-2 O/U) lost 115-107 to Miami on Sunday. The Knicks defeated Boston 105-95 and Cleveland 119-111 in their first two games of the season.
New York stumbled in the second half against the Heat, as they were outscored 23-6 after taking a one-point lead late in the third quarter. The Knicks had forced their way to the free-throw line often in their first two games (61-33 advantage), but Miami flipped the script with a 31-21 edge on Sunday. New York shot just 38 percent, including 27 percent from three, and was outscored 31-10 in fast break points.

The Knicks handled their business against an injury-riddled Celtics team in their previous game, as PG Jalen Brunson scored 31 points and F Karl-Anthony Towns had 26 points and 13 rebounds. New York stomped the visitors in the second quarter, outscoring them 42-14 to take a 20-point lead into halftime. Sloppy play allowed Boston to get back into the game in the third, but NY finished strong to win and cover the spread. The Knicks dominated on the glass (+16 rebounding margin with 21 offensive rebounds), outscored the Celtics 15-2 in fast break points, and shot 22-for-25 (88.0%) at the free-throw line.
New York should be one of the league's top teams again this season. The Knicks went 51-31 in 2024-25, finishing third in the East's regular season standings and advancing to the EC Finals. The Clutch Player of the Year, Brunson, averaged 26.0 points and 7.3 dimes, and Towns earned his fifth All-Star selection, but New York played team basketball, with OG Anunoby, Mikal Bridges, and Josh Hart also performing at a high level. The Knicks' core is hungry for an NBA Championship, and they appear well-positioned to make another deep run in the postseason.
New York Knicks Basketball Injury Report:Β C Mitchell Robinson (ankle) and PG Miles McBride (personal) are day-to-day.
Milwaukee is dealing with several injuries
Milwaukee (2-1 SU, 3-0 ATS, and 2-1 O/U) lost 118-113 to Cleveland on Sunday. The Bucks beat Washington 133-120 and Toronto 122-116 in their first two games of the season.
Milwaukee played without F Kyle Kuzma (ankle sprain), G Cole Anthony (illness), and G Kevin Porter Jr. (ankle sprain) in its loss to the Cavaliers. Giannis Antetokounmpo put the team on his back, finishing one assist shy of a triple-double with 40 points and 14 boards. The Bucks shot 50 percent from the field, but were outrebounded and conceded 24 points off turnovers.
Milwaukee finished with a 48-34 record last season, winning the NBA Cup and finishing fifth in the Eastern Conference. They were bounced in five games by the eventual EC champs, Indiana, in the first round of the NBA playoffs. The Bucks made a few changes to their roster in an attempt to make a deeper playoff run, trading Khris Middleton to Washington for Kuzma and acquiring Porter Jr. from the Los Angeles Clippers; however, the pieces didn't fit together well enough. That didn't deter management from continuing to retool the team in the offseason, signing Pacers star Myles Turner, waiving Damian Lillard, and letting Brook Lopez walk in free agency.
The addition of Turner turned heads around the league, and the big man gives Milwaukee elite rim protection and long-range shooting. He averaged 2.0 blocks per game last season and stretched the floor, hitting 2.2 three-pointers per game on 39.6 percent shooting. The Bucks also signed Anthony and SG Gary Harris, and re-signed Porter Jr., Gary Trent Jr., Bobby Portis, Taurean Prince, and AJ Green, giving them solid depth around Antetokounmpo and Turner. It's unclear whether this roster gives Giannis a supporting cast capable of competing with the beasts of the East, but the conference is more wide open with several contenders dealing with season-long injuries to star players.
Milwaukee Bucks Basketball Injury Report:Β Kuzma (ankle), Anthony (illness), and Porter Jr. (ankle) are day-to-day.
Knicks vs. Bucks Pick and Preview
Spread Pick for Knicks vs. Bucks
- New York to cover (4 Units)
This matchup pits two contenders dealing with injuries, as I already touched on the Bucks' injuries, while Hart (back spasms) has been limited to 48 minutes in two games, Towns has been playing through a quad injury, and Robinson has yet to suit up for the Knicks. Both teams were competitive on Sunday, despite these injuries.
The Knicks are currently ranked in the top five in both offensive and defensive rating, as they have been dominant on the boards (6th in offensive rebounding percentage and 1st in opponent offensive rebounds allowed). Milwaukee ranks 27th in offensive rebounding and has struggled to get to the foul line (23rd in FT rate), an area New York has dominated in its wins. While the visitors have been dealing with injuries, their stars have played through them. The Bucks, meanwhile, sat three key contributors last game. While it's unclear how game-ready these players will be for Tuesday's game, I lean towards New York's side.
Over/Under Pick for Knicks vs. Bucks
- Over (5 Units)
I believe Milwaukee will speed up New York at home, pushing the total over. The Knicks have been slow-tempo on offense, but Milwaukee ranks 10th in pace, as its opponents have averaged the shortest possession length in the league. Plus, the Knicks have been getting to the charity stripe a lot. Any time a team can score with the clock stopped, it's an over bettor's dream. On defense, New York has also allowed its opponents to push the pace, as they average the eighth-shortest defensive possession length in the NBA.
The over has cashed in four of the last five games between the Knicks and Bucks β I'm confident that they will score plenty of points on Tuesday.
