The Clippers play without rest
Friday’s games have been excluded from the analysis, and the LA Clippers visited the Memphis Grizzlies on Friday night, hoping to stay on track. Last Wednesday, the Clippers put an end to their five-game losing streak with a 115-92 road victory against the Atlanta Hawks.

The Clippers outrebounded the Hawks 54-38 while holding Atlanta to 40.0% shooting from the field (13-for-39 from deep). LA made 49.4% of its field goals (10-for-32 from deep), outscoring Atlanta 52-40 in the paint.
James Harden tortured the Hawks for 27 points and nine assists. Surprisingly, Harden committed just one turnover. Ivica Zubac posted a 14-point, 17-rebound double-double, while Kawhi Leonard had 21 points, six boards, and five assists.
The Clippers have held their rivals below a 100-point mark twice this season. LA surrenders 119.5 points per 100 possessions (24th in the NBA) and scores 114.3 points in return (21st).
G Chris Paul, who was averaging just 2.9 points per game and 3.3 assists, parted ways with the Clippers earlier this week.
The Timberwolves shoot for their fifth straight W
The Minnesota Timberwolves have won four straight games while going 1-3 against the number. After consecutive home wins over the Boston Celtics 119-115 and the San Antonio Spurs 125-112, the T-Wolves beat the New Orleans Pelicans twice on the road, 149-142 in overtime and 125-116.
Last Thursday, Minnesota outlasted New Orleans in regulation despite committing eight more turnovers than the Pelicans (20-12). The Timberwolves went 15-for-38 from downtown, whereas New Orleans hit just seven of its 25 shots from deep.
Anthony Edwards dropped 44 points on the Pelicans in that overtime duel. He had just 11 points last Thursday, and Julius Randle led the charge for the Timberwolves with 28 points and nine rebounds. Rudy Gobert double-doubled with 15 points and 12 boards, and Naz Reid added 19 points and six assists.
The Timberwolves score 119.1 points per 100 possessions (7th in the NBA) and allow 113.9 points in return (11th). They hit 14.4 triples per 100 possessions (tied for 7th) on a 38.7 percentage clip (4th).
Clippers vs. Timberwolves Pick
Spread Pick for Clippers vs. Timberwolves
- Minnesota Timberwolves (4 units)
The Timberwolves lean on 3-pointers a lot. The Clippers have struggled to defend the 3-point line for most of the season, so I think this is a tough matchup for LA. It’s a tough spot for sure, as the Clippers take the floor on the second night of a back-to-back.
The Clippers’ defense is 29th in the NBA in 3-point percentage (39.0%). Just one team has allowed more 3-pointers than LA this season, so I’m backing the Timberwolves to win and cover.
Both teams have struggled against the number lately. The Clippers haven’t covered during their losing streak, while the Timberwolves are 2-6 ATS in their previous eight games overall.
Over/Under Pick for Clippers vs. Timberwolves
- Under (4 units)
The Clippers register just 97.4 possessions per 48 minutes. That’s the third-slowest pace in the NBA. But their defense has been pretty bad thus far, and I mentioned their struggles with opposing 3-point shooting.
The Timberwolves record 100.4 possessions per 48 minutes (14th in the league). They allow just 11.9 3-pointers per 100 possessions (4th) on a 35.6 percentage clip (11th) and rank fifth in opposing 2-point percentage (53.0%), but the Timberwolves have struggled to keep their rivals off the foul line.
I expect the Clippers to slow things down as much as possible. It’s the second night of a back-to-back, and the Clippers need to tighten things up and take good care of the ball. Give me the under. Seven of the last eight meetings between LA and Minnesota have gone under the total.
