Los Angeles Lakers (16-6) vs. Philadelphia 76ers (13-9)

The NBA betting action goes on Sunday, December 7, with the seven-game card, including the cross-conference showdown at Xfinity Mobile Arena in Philadelphia, PA, so we’ve prepared the Lakers vs. 76ers prediction to get you covered.

The Lakers meet the 76ers for the first time this season. They split a two-game set in 2024-25, with each team emerging victorious on the home floor. The 76ers have dominated the Lakers lately, going 8-1 SU and 7-2 ATS in their previous nine encounters.

The Lakers will finish their three-game road trip on Sunday

The Los Angeles Lakers (16-6; 14-8 ATS; 16-6 O/U) put an end to their seven-game winning streak last Monday, suffering a 125-108 home loss against the Phoenix Suns. Three days later, the Lakers bounced back with a 123-120 road victory over the Toronto Raptors, as Rui Hachimura hit a 3-pointer at the buzzer.

Last Friday, the Lakers returned on a losing track. With Luka Doncic (personal) and LeBron James (foot) both on the sidelines, the Lakers couldn’t cope with the Celtics, losing 126-105 at TD Garden in Boston. Austin Reaves dropped 36 points on the Celtics, but the Lakers’ defense was awful, allowing 24 triples and 20 fast-break points.

Doncic missed his second straight game. He was in Slovenia for the birth of his child, and Luka could return as soon as Sunday’s clash against Philadelphia, according to the Lakers head coach JJ Redick. Doncic has been unstoppable this season, averaging 35.3 points, 8.9 rebounds, and 8.9 assists.

The Lakers lean on their offense, tallying 119.7 points per 100 possessions (6th in the NBA). They lead the league in 2-point percentage (60.9%) and free-throw rate (.344). However, the Lakers’ defense leaves a lot to be desired. They allow 117.5 points per 100 possessions (tied for 19th) on 56.7% shooting from inside the arc (tied for 24th) and 38.0% from downtown (25th).

The 76ers eye their fourth straight W

The Philadelphia 76ers (13-9; 13-9 ATS; 11-11 O/U) have won four of their last five games overall and are on a three-game winning streak. After finishing their three-game homestand with consecutive wins against the Washington Wizards 121-102 and the Golden State Warriors 99-98, the 76ers beat the Milwaukee Bucks 116-101 on the road this past Friday.

The Sixers had a 20-point halftime lead at Fiserv Forum in Milwaukee and never looked back. Philadelphia went 17-for-43 from downtown and 21-for-22 from the foul line. Quentin Grimes led the way for the Sixers with 22 points off the bench, while Paul George had 20 points, five rebounds, and five assists.

Joel Embiid didn’t play against the Bucks, as it was the back end of a back-to-back set for the 76ers. He should be ready for Sunday’s clash against the Lakers. Embiid has appeared in just eight games this season, averaging 18.5 points and 5.4 rebounds. Tyrese Maxey leads the charge for Phila with 31.6 points and 7.1 assists per game.

The 76ers score 115.4 points per 100 possessions (16th in the NBA) on 53.1% shooting from inside the arc (23rd) and 36.2% from downtown (14th). They allow 114.4 points in return (14th) on 54.9% shooting from inside the arc (also 14th) and 34.2% from beyond the 3-point line (6th).

Lakers vs. 76ers Pick

Spread Pick for Lakers vs. 76ers

  • Philadelphia 76ers +4 (4 units)

There are some moving parts in this game. I would like to know Luka Doncic’s status, as he’s the most important part of this Lakers team. Even if he suits up, traveling from Europe could affect Luka’s game.

Anyway, the Lakers will need a solid defensive performance if they want to beat the 76ers. Tyrese Maxey was quiet against Milwaukee, but he had scored 35 or more points in three straight outings before the Bucks game.

I expect Maxey to torture the Lakers’ backcourt. Also, I have more trust in Philadelphia’s defense, though the Sixers have had a few rough defensive displays over the last two weeks.

Over/Under Pick for Lakers vs. 76ers

  • Over 235.5 (4 units)

Neither side plays fast. The Lakers record 99.1 possessions per 48 minutes (tied for 22nd in the NBA), while the 76ers register 99.8 possessions per 48 minutes (tied for 16th). However, both teams love to attack the rim, and I expect a ton of free throws in this game.

Also, the Lakers struggle to defend the 3-point line, and the Sixers will certainly look for open shots from deep. Hereof, I will take the over on the total. The over is 4-2 in the last six encounters between the Lakers and Sixers, and it is 6-0 in the Lakers’ last six games overall.
