Los Angeles Drops Seven of Eight
There have been plenty of surprises in the NBA season so far, but one of the biggest shocks has been the poor play of the Los Angeles Clippers. They have lost seven of eight coming into this one, with their lone win coming against Charlotte in a game where James Harden had to score 55 points to get a victory. Los Angeles has been battling injuries, with Kawhi Leonard missing ten games already, Derrick Jones Jr. missing seven, and Bradley Beal out for the season. In their last game, Kawhi had 30 points and eight rebounds, but they still fell to Dallas.
Leonard appears to be healthy and will suit up for this one, especially considering the Clippers had the day off on Sunday. When Leonard plays, he is still effective, as he is averaging 24.9 PPG and 5.0 RPG. Kawhi has scored 30 or more in each of his last two games coming into this one. Their top scorer has been James Harden, who is still able to carry an offense as a 36-year-old guard. Harden is scoring 27.6 PPG and is fifth in the NBA with 8.6 APG. He can still go off for big scoring games, evidenced by his 55-point showing in Charlotte. Ivica Zubac is one of the most underrated bigs in the league. He is getting 16.2 PPG and 11.5 RPG in the middle.
John Collins has been starting at the forward spot recently. He only missed one shot last game, going 9-10 for 21 points against the Mavs. Collins is averaging 12.0 PPG. The Clippers rank 18th in offensive efficiency and 11th in defensive efficiency according to dunksandthrees.com. Los Angeles is 28th in the league in possessions per game.
Miami Turns Up the Heat at Home
The Miami Heat are currently 4th in the Eastern Conference, and their 9-2 record at home has surely played a role in their success. The Heat are coming off a tough loss to the Pistons, but they had won their previous six games before that. That winning stretch includes impressive wins over the Knicks, Warriors and Bucks. In their recent loss to Detroit, the teams combined to score an absurd 273 points, flying well over the total that was set at 239.5. In that game, Andrew Wiggins led the way for Miami with 31 points in the loss.
Wiggins never turned into the superstar that some predicted him to be, but is still an 18.5 PPG scorer over his career which started in 2014. This season, Wiggins is averaging 17.2 PPG and 4.8 RPG. Tyler Herro finally rejoined the lineup after missing many games to start the season with an injury. Herro has played in each of the last three games and has scored at least 24 points in each outing, with a high of 29 coming against Milwaukee in a win. Herro has been knocking down 3.0 threes per game, as has Norman Powell who will be taking on his former team in this one. Powell is scoring 24.7 PPG this year.
Bam Adebayo still patrols the paint for Miami and is one of the best defenders in the league. Bam is getting 18.9 PPG and 8.5 RPG. Kel'el Ware provides a spark as an athletic young seven-footer, getting 12.4 PPG and 10.7 RPG. Miami is ranked 14th in offensive efficiency and 5th in defensive efficiency. The Heat have been playing fast, leading the league in possessions per game.
Injury Report for Clippers vs. Heat:
Clippers:
- Out: Derrick Jones Jr. (10.5 PPG), Bogdan Bogdanovic (9.2 PPG), Bradley Beal (8.2 PPG)
Heat:
- Questionable: Jaime Jacquez Jr. (16.2 PPG)
Clippers vs. Heat Picks and Predictions
Spread pick for Clippers vs. Heat
- Heat to cover (5 units)
The Heat already beat the Clippers in Los Angeles, and that was before Tyler Herro rejoined the team. Miami is the healthier team, the better defensive team, and are playing at home, the Heat are the play here. Miami is 9-2 at home, and the Clippers are just 2-8 on the road. The Clippers are heavily reliant on Harden to create offense, and hope that Kawhi can score on the wing. It will not be easy for those two to get going, as Miami has the 5th best defense in the league, and Adebayo and Ware lock down the paint, which will take away their drives to the rim. The Heat have their scoring backcourt back together with Herro and Powell; they will put up big numbers here in a Miami win.

Over/Under Pick for Clippers vs. Heat
- Over (4 units)
The Heat just scored 135 points in their last game, in a losing effort. This may have exposed some holes in their defense that the Clippers can take advantage of, but they better do it quickly, as Miami has been the fastest team in the league this season. The Heat are averaging 109.7 possessions per game, playing much faster than they did last season when they averaged 100.1 possessions per game. Neither team played on Sunday. Miami is at full strength, and while the Clippers still have some injuries on their roster, they will still have their top two scorers on the floor in this game. Expect another high-scoring game in this one.
