Los Angeles Rights the Ship
The Los Angeles Clippers had a nightmarish start to their season, but have won nine of their last eleven games coming into this battle with Phoenix. The Clippers hope to even the season series over their Western Conference foe, as they have dropped two of the three games they played so far. Los Angeles is currently 10th in the West, clinging on the the final playoff spot. In their last game, the Clippers were led by James Harden with 25 points and nine assists in the loss to Denver.
Harden's career will likely be defined by his shortcomings in the playoffs, but that doesn't mean the future Hall of Famer cannot still dominate the floor on any given night. Harden is 36 years old, but still puts up a strong stat line including 25.4 PPG and 8.1 APG, while being surprisingly healthy this season while starting 44 games. Kawhi Leonard is their top scorer, he is expected to play here and is scoring 27.7 PPG to go with his 6.1 RPG. Ivica Zubac is an underrated big man contributing 14.6 PPG and 10.8 RPG while averaging a double-double.
John Collins has been starting recent games as an athletic power forward getting 13.4 PPG, and Kris Dunn rounds out the starting lineup as another ballhandler getting 7.9 PPG. The Clippers rank 16th in offensive efficiency and 14th in defensive efficiency according to dunksandthrees.com. The Clippers play slow on offense, ranking 29th in the league in possessions per game.
Suns Conclude Homestand
The Phoenix Suns are playing their fifth straight game on their home floor, wrapping up a homestand in which they won three of the first four games. Their lone loss came against Miami, while taking three consecutive victories over Brooklyn, Detroit and Cleveland. This will be the only Western Conference opponent of the homestand, as Phoenix looks to wrap up a season series win over the Clippers. The Suns are currently 6th in the Western Conference standings.
In their last game against Cleveland, Phoenix was led by Dillon Brooks with 27 points in the victory. Brooks has been known as a physical defensive force throughout his career, but has significantly improved his scoring this year. Brooks is getting 21.1 PPG while still being a defensive stopper on the perimeter. Devin Booker will be a game time decision, he is still working on returning from a tweaked ankle he suffered last week against the Hawks. Without Booker, Grayson Allen will have in increase his scoring as he is third on the team with 16.5 PPG.
Mark Williams starts in the middle, and brings 12.1 PPG and 8.1 RPG. Collin Gillespie (13.5 PPG) and Royce O'Neale (10.2 PPG) have been rounding out recent starting lineups. The Suns rank 14th in offensive efficiency and 9th in defensive efficiency. They play just slightly faster than the Clippers, ranking 22nd in the league in pace of play.

Clippers vs. Suns Picks and Predictions
Spread pick for Clippers vs. Suns
- Clippers to cover (5 units)
Devin Booker is listed as a game time decision, but that ankle has kept him out since last Friday, and I don't see the training staff rushing him back if he is not completely ready. This leaves the Clippers with more talent in this game, and LA has been on fire lately as they continue to turn their season around. Kawhi and Harden are both healthy, and Dillon Brooks cannot guard both of them at the same time. Zubac is a load in the middle, and will pose problems for Mark Williams and the other Phoenix bigs. The Suns have been hosting all Eastern Conference teams, this is just a short trip for the Clippers who will come in and take care of business.
Take the Clippers to cover.
Over/Under Pick for Clippers vs. Suns
- Under (4 units)
Two of the slowest paced teams in the NBA meet, with a high probability that Devin Booker and his 25.4 PPG will be sidelined, this leads to another under. Both teams are in the bottom ten in possessions per game, with the Clippers playing slower than every team in the league except for Boston. Harden and Kawhi prefer to score in the halfcourt, Harden using isolations and ball screens, while Kawhi still relies on the midrange post game. They will play slowly here, and Phoenix will match that pace as they have to rely on Brooks and Allen to be their top scorers. This will be a low scoring game, as Phoenix has gone under in four of their last five games.
Take the under.
