Los Angeles Gets One Star Back
The Los Angeles Lakers have won four of their last five games, and got one of their star players back in the lineup in their game on Friday. Luka Doncic returned after a finger injury, joining the red hot Austin Reaves to give the Lakers a strong scoring punch without LeBron James in the lineup. LeBron is expected to rejoin the lineup near mid-November. Los Angeles has won their last two games heading into Sunday, taking down the T-Wolves and Grizzlies, both on the road.
Doncic has played in three games this season and is already putting up ridiculous scoring numbers. Luka has scored at least 43 points in all three games, with his high coming in a 49-point showing against the T-Wolves. He offers more than just scoring, as he is grabbing 11.7 RPG and 7.7 APG. Austin Reaves led the Lakers when Doncic was out and put up a 51-point game against Sacramento. Reaves is averaging 32.0 PPG and 9.0 APG, ranking in the top ten in the NBA in both categories. Rui Hachimura is their stretch power forward; he is connecting on 41.7% of his attempts from deep, while adding another 15.3 PPG.
Deandre Ayton was brought over to be their starting center. The former number one overall pick is averaging 14.8 PPG and 7.8 RPG. Ayton will be a game-time decision here with a lingering back issue. Los Angeles ranks 12th in offensive efficiency and 15th in defensive efficiency according to dunksandthrees.com. The Lakers are 24th in the league in pace of play, based on their number of possessions per game.

Trail Blazers Win Three Straight
The Portland Trail Blazers have positive momentum coming into this game, as they have won their last three, including their last matchup with this Lakers team. The other two wins came over the Jazz and the Nuggets, racking up early wins against their Western Conference counterparts. Portland will also have the rest advantage here, as they did not have a game on Saturday or Sunday. In their last game against the Nuggets, Portland got 23 points from Deni Avdija in the win.
Avdija is their leading scorer this season, as the 24-year-old out of Israel is averaging 22.7 PPG to go with 6.0 RPG and 4.2 APG. His top-scoring game of the season was a 26-point game in the win over Golden State. Jerami Grant has been used as a spark off the bench this season, as he did not start in any of their six games. Grant is still averaging 20.7 PPG and is making 2.5 threes per game on 41.7% shooting from deep. Jrue Holiday came over in an offseason trade. Some thought the veteran guard would be bought out of his contract, but he is staying in Portland for now and averaging 18.2 PPG and 8.7 APG.
Donovan Clingan is working to improve his game to be Portland's center of the future. The 21-year-old is averaging 9.5 PPG and 10.0 RPG. Shaedon Sharpe is an excellent athlete on the wing, averaging 17.3 PPG. Portland ranks 15th in offensive efficiency and 7th in defensive efficiency. They are playing at the 4th fastest pace in the league.

Spread pick and prediction for Lakers vs. Trail Blazers
- Trail Blazers to cover (5 units)
The market has not yet caught up to the Trail Blazers, who are putting a surprisingly strong team on the floor throughout their first six games. Holiday runs the point, with a handful of wing scorers and Clingan holding down the paint. Most importantly, with this matchup, the Lakers are on their second game of a back-to-back, and have been battling injuries all year. Doncic should be good to go, but there is a strong chance that Ayton sits this game out, as his back has been bothering him, and this is his second game in two days. Get this bet in early if you can, as Portland is at full strength, and the Lakers have several players who could decide to sit out at the last second. Portland already took down Los Angeles once this season; expect the Blazers to show up again here.
Take the Blazers to cover.
Over/Under Pick for Lakers vs. Trail Blazers
- Under (4 units)
This is the second game in two nights for the Lakers; they will be playing at a slow pace, and Luka helps to slow the game down with his style of play. Luka missed three games, which forced the offense to move faster, but with their star guard back in the lineup, the Lakers will slow this game down here. Doncic likes to control the ball and take it late in the shot clock while playing isolation ball as opposed to the team getting up quick shots in transition. The Lakers are 19th in pace of play and will probably a bit slower when LeBron James returns from a back injury. The Blazers do not have an elite-level scorer to push the pace here, as Avdija is a nice player, but not a threat to put up 40 or 50 on any given night. This will be a low-scoring game.
Take the under.
