The Lakers are coming off a heavy loss
The Los Angeles Lakers have won four of their previous six games overall. Their last five contests have come on the road, and the Lakers have gone 3-2 SU and ATS during that stretch.

Purple-and-Gold are coming off Wednesday’s 129-99 defeat at the Cleveland Cavaliers. The Lakers lacked intensity in their game and gave up 72 second-half points. The Lakers went just 9-for-32 from deep, and Luka Doncic led the way with 29 points and six assists.
Doncic has done a great job during the Lakers’ road trip, averaging 35.6 points, 9.4 assists, and 8.8 rebounds. The Lakers are still without Austin Reaves (26.6 PPG, 6.3 APG this season), who’s recovering from a calf injury.
Los Angeles is fifth in the Western Conference, just half a game ahead of the No. 7 seed. The Lakers score 117.6 points per 100 possessions (8th in the NBA) and surrender 118.2 points in return (25th).
The Wizards snapped their nine-game skid on Tuesday
The Washington Wizards were looking for a rare consecutive win on Thursday night. Last Tuesday, the Wizards outlasted the Portland Trail Blazers 115-111 at home to put an end to their nine-game losing streak (3-6 ATS).
Washington held Portland to 38.5% shooting from the field and forced the Trail Blazers into 20 turnovers. The Wizards made 40.8% of their field goals (17-for-39 from deep), and Alex Sarr led the charge with 29 points, 12 rebounds, and six blocks.
Sarr (17.7 PPG, 7.5 RPG) has scored 24 or more points in three of his previous four outings, but he was questionable for Thursday’s game against Milwaukee due to an illness. Washington cannot count on Trae Young (knee), who will make his Wizards debut after the All-Star break.
The Wizards were 11 games behind the No. 10 seed in the Eastern Conference on Thursday morning. Washington ranked 28th in the league in adjusted offensive efficiency (110.8 points per 100 possessions) and 29th in adjusted defensive efficiency (121.2).
Lakers vs. Wizards Pick
Spread Pick for Lakers vs. Wizards
- Los Angeles Lakers (4 units)
The Lakers should be fired up to make amends for that awful performance in Cleveland. Their defense has struggled all season, and the Cavaliers took full advantage of the Lakers’ shortcomings. Now, the Lakers are taking on the Wizards, whose defense has been even worse.
The Wizards are dead last in the NBA in defensive rebound percentage (70.4%), while the Lakers are eighth in this category (74.6%). Just three teams allow more free throws per game than Washington (25.9), and the Lakers lead the league in free-throw rate. I expect the Lakers’ offense to make a difference.
Over/Under Pick for Lakers vs. Wizards
- Over (4 units)
I rely on the Lakers’ offense in this matchup, and Luka Doncic could easily hit a 40-point mark on Friday night. With both teams struggling to defend, I can only look at the over when it comes to the total.
I expect the Lakers to take a ton of free throws in this game. They won’t hesitate to push the ball in transition and attack the offensive glass against the Wizards, who are eighth in the NBA in pace with 100.9 possessions per 48 minutes.
Despite playing on the second night of a back-to-back set, the Wizards won’t look to slow things down. The Lakers are 20th in pace (98.6), and they have an advantage over Washington in half-court basketball.
