Memphis is in a slump
The Grizzlies have dropped six of their last seven games, including a 133-120 loss to the New York Knicks on Tuesday. The Knicks overwhelmed Memphis from beyond the arc, hitting 22 of 55 three-point attempts, while the Grizzlies connected on just 14 of 38. Ja Morant finished with 16 points and 10 rebounds but struggled from the field again, shooting just 4-for-14. Jaren Jackson Jr. and Santi Aldama led the way in the losing effort with 19 points apiece.
Morant is shooting just 35.2% from the field and 16.7% from three-point range. He leads the Grizzlies with 18.9 points per game and 8.1 assists, while Jackson Jr. adds 17.2 points and just 5.5 rebounds with 1.4 blocks.
On the season, Memphis entered Tuesday ranked 22nd in scoring (113.8 ppg) and 26th in field goal percentage (43.8%). Defensively, the Grizzlies are giving up 118.7 points per game, 22nd in the league, while allowing opponents to shoot 48.4% from the floor.
Celtics missing Tatum
The Boston Celtics are coming off a tough 102-100 loss to the Philadelphia 76ers. The game was tied until Kelly Oubre Jr. scored on a putback with 8.7 seconds remaining. Derrick White’s potential game-winning three fell short, and Neemias Queta’s tip at the buzzer also missed.
This season has been an adjustment period for Boston, as they work through major roster changes following the offseason trades of Kristaps Porzingis and Jrue Holiday, along with the season-ending Achilles injury to Jayson Tatum.
Through 12 games, the Celtics rank 16th in offensive rating and ninth in defense. Jaylen Brown leads the team with 28 points per game, followed by Payton Pritchard at 15.5 ppg. Queta, the team’s 7-foot center, is seeing the most significant minutes of his career and contributing 8.6 points and a team-high 7.9 rebounds per game.
Offensively, the Celtics sit 25th in the NBA at 111.8 points per game and 27th in three-point shooting (32.8%). Defensively, however, they’ve been elite, ranking second in the league while allowing just 109.8 points per game.
Memphis Grizzlies vs Boston Celtics Predictions
ATS Picks Grizzlies vs. Celtics:
- Memphis Grizzlies +6 (4 units)
Both teams are playing for the second night in a row here and should be focused after losing on Tuesday. As hard as it is to back Memphis right now, the number is generous. Morant's athleticism in the open floor will be difficult to stop. The Celtics are not the same team and have been one of the worst three-point shooting teams in the NBA. With both teams struggling, I will back the dog to keep it close.
Total Picks for Grizzlies vs. Celtics:
- Under 230.5 (4 units)
Both teams have struggled to find consistency on offense. The Grizzlies rely heavily on transition opportunities to generate points, but the Celtics have the personnel and defensive discipline to slow them down. Neither side has been efficient from beyond the arc, and collectively they are just 14-18 to the over/under in the second game of back-to-backs since last season. Boston showed its defensive toughness last night, holding the 76ers to just 102 points, and should be able to carry that intensity into this matchup.
