The Grizzlies hope to stay on track
The Memphis Grizzlies (7-12; 7-12 ATS; 7-12 O/U) have won three of their last four games overall. After consecutive wins over the Sacramento Kings 137-96 and the Dallas Mavericks 125-115, the Grizzlies suffered a 125-115 home defeat against the Denver Nuggets this past Monday.
Memphis returned to winning ways last Wednesday, outlasting the New Orleans Pelicans 133-128 in overtime on the road. The Grizzlies overcame a nine-point fourth-quarter deficit, and Jaren Jackson Jr. led the way with 27 points. Zach Edey had a good game, too, posting a double-double of 21 points and 15 rebounds.
Ja Morant (17.9 PPG, 7.6 APG) missed his fifth straight game with a calf injury. Morant will remain on the shelf for at least a couple of games. Brandon Clarke, Scotty Pippen Jr., and Ty Jerome are all recovering from injuries and won’t make a season debut anytime soon.
The Grizzlies score just 111.9 points per 100 possessions (25th in the NBA) and allow 116.0 points in return (18th). They are 27th in the league in 3-point percentage (33.1%) and 10th in 3-point rate (.437).
The Clippers look to snap their two-game skid
The Los Angeles Clippers (5-13; 5-13 ATS; 11-7 O/U) have dropped five of their previous six games overall. After stopping their three-game slide with a 131-116 road victory over the Charlotte Hornets, the Clippers lost consecutive road games against the Cleveland Cavaliers 120-105 and the Los Angeles Lakers 135-118.
Last Tuesday, the Clippers put on an awful defensive display, allowing the Lakers to score at will. James Harden led the way for the Clippers with 29 points and nine assists, while Kawhi Leonard and Kris Dunn accounted for 19 points each.
Bogdan Bogdanovic (9.2 PPG, 3.3 APG) missed three straight games with a hip injury. Bradley Beal (8.2 PPG) is done for the season due to a hip injury, while Derrick Jones Jr. (10.5 PPG) will miss some time with a knee injury.
It’s been a rough season for the Clippers, who surrender a staggering 121.0 points per 100 possessions (25th in the NBA). They score 114.8 points in return (20th) on 36.4% shooting from deep (tied for 13th).
Grizzlies vs. Clippers Pick
Spread Pick for Grizzlies vs. Clippers
- Memphis Grizzlies +6.0 (5 units)
The stake is huge in this game. The winner will stay alive in the wild-card race, whereas the losing team will be eliminated from the knockout contention. Hereof, I expect a tight battle, so give me the Grizzlies and points.
The Grizzlies have done a good job without Ja Morant in the lineup, and Vince Williams Jr. has handed out 45 assists over his last four games. In that overtime victory at New Orleans, Williams Jr. made 17 dishes.
Memphis takes good care of the ball (5th in the NBA in turnover percentage, 12.2%). On the other side, LA turns the ball over on 14.6% of its possessions (14.6%). The Clippers are 28th in opposing 3-point percentage (38.9%), so I don’t think they will beat the Grizzlies comfortably.
Over/Under Pick for Grizzlies vs. Clippers
- Under 227.5 (5 units)
With Ja Morant on the shelf, the Grizzlies have slowed things down. Over their last five outings, the Grizzlies average 97.4 possessions per 48 minutes. The Clippers average 97.8 possessions per 48 minutes over their past five games. LA plays at the third-slowest pace in the NBA (96.6).
Hereof, give me the under on the total. The Clippers’ defense cannot be trusted, but the Grizzlies are not an offensive juggernaut. The under is 11-4 in the Grizzlies’ last 15 games overall and 4-1 in their previous five showings on the road.
