Memphis riddled by injuries and an uncertain future

The Memphis Grizzlies have been decimated by injuries this season and made the difficult decision to ship Jaren Jackson Jr. to Utah at the trade deadline. The Grizzlies have won just one playoff series in the last decade and have an uncertain future ahead. Memphis ranks in the bottom third of the league in defensive efficiency by Hollinger's NBA Team Statistics and are giving up 119.6 points per game. The Grizzlies have dropped 25 of their first 36 road games and have been eliminated from postseason contention. On Friday, Memphis committed 20 turnovers and shot just 40 percent from the field during a lifeless 128-96 home loss versus Toronto.

Ty Jerome has been a steadying force for a young Memphis roster. The 28-year old guard averages a team-best 19.7 points per game. Ja Morant (19.5 PPG) was having a down year before suffering an elbow injury that has sidelined him since late January. Before being lost for the season, Santi Aldama provided a spark off the Memphis bench with 14.0 points and 6.7 rebounds. GG Jackson (12.5 ppg) has plenty of upside and could be a building block for the future.

Milwaukee heading towards an ugly breakup with Giannis

The Milwaukee Bucks entered the season with the hopes of contending in a watered down Eastern Conference, but have fallen way short of their goals. The Bucks will now enter the offseason with a growing chance of losing two-time MVP Giannis Antetokounmpo. Milwaukee ranks near the bottom of the league in defensive efficiency by Hollinger's NBA Team Statistics and is surrendering 116.9 points per contest. The Bucks are five games below .500 at home and will miss the postseason for the first time since 2016. On Friday, Milwaukee fell behind by 17 points after one quarter and allowed Boston to shoot a sizzling 56 percent from the field during an ugly 133-101 home loss.

All-Star F Giannis Antetokounmpo has appeared in just 36 games this season and leads Milwaukee in scoring (27.6 ppg) and rebounds (9.8 rpg). Ryan Rollins has taken a huge step forward in Antetokounmpo’s absence and is scoring a career-best 17.1 points per game. Veteran F Bobby Portis (13.7 ppg) is always a presence in the interior. Myles Turner (11.8 ppg) has not lived up to expectations in his first season in Milwaukee.

Key Injury Report for Milwaukee:

  • Ryan Rollins (DTD) - hip
  • Bobby Portis (out) - wrist
  • Giannis Antetokounmpo (out) - knee
  • Kevin Porter Jr. (out) - knee

Memphis vs Milwaukee Pick

Memphis vs Milwaukee Spread Pick

  • Pick: Memphis Spread

Memphis has reeled off eight straight victories against Milwaukee, including a 125-104 home victory in late December. The Grizzlies are 36-41 ATS this season, while the Bucks are less profitable with a 34-43 ATS record. Milwaukee is 6-8 ATS as a home favorite and have lacked competitive fire recently. Take the Grizzlies to win outright as a road underdog.

Memphis vs Milwaukee Over/Under Pick

  • Pick: Under

These two teams have a contrast in styles, as Mempnhis plays at the eighth fastest tempo and Milwaukee ranks 25th in that category. The Bucks rank 24th in offensive efficiency and the Grizzlies are right behind them at 25th. Milwaukee has been profitable for under bettors with a 35-42 O/U record. Take the under.

Final Score Prediction: Memphis Grizzlies win 113-110
