Last Monday, the Grizzlies opened a two-game road trip with a 131-118 loss at the Golden State Warriors. It was a lousy defensive performance by the Grizzlies, who allowed 19 3-pointers and 36 assists. Memphis shot 45.5% from the field (12-for-39 from deep), and Ja Morant led the way with 23 points and nine assists.
The Grizzlies entered the season with slight injury problems and cannot count on Brandon Clarke, Zach Edey, Scotty Pippen Jr., and Ty Jerome. The Phoenix Suns (1-3; 1-3 ATS; 4-0 O/U) beat the Sacramento Kings 120-116 at home in their season opener. Since then, the Suns have dropped three consecutive road games against the LA Clippers 129-102, the Denver Nuggets 133-111, and the Utah Jazz 138-134 in overtime.
The Suns are coming off Monday’s tough loss against Utah. Phoenix erased an 11-point deficit in the final three minutes of the fourth quarter but couldn’t find a way to come out on top in overtime. The Suns gave up 28 offensive rebounds, which is shocking. They shot 42.5% from the field (20-for-55 from deep), and Devin Booker led the way with 34 points and 10 assists.
Booker is averaging 26.7 points and 5.7 assists, but he’s not getting a lot of help from his teammates. The Suns’ frontcourt is pretty thin, while Jalen Green (hamstring) is still waiting for his Suns debut. Dillon Brooks (19.3 PPG, 3.3 RPG) missed the Jazz game with a groin injury and is questionable for Wednesday’s clash versus Memphis.
