Heat vs Pelicans picks are tricky on paper because Miami has owned this matchup, but the market is telling a different story tonight with this number sitting basically at a pick’em. If you are looking for a sharp angle in your daily NBA picks, this is one of those games where recent form and availability matter more than name value.

Heat vs Pelicans Key Matchups and Handicap

Pelicans

New Orleans comes into this game playing its best basketball in a while. The Pelicans have won back-to-back games and they are 6-3 against the spread in recent weeks. That matters more than the season-long head-to-head history in my eyes, because this line is not pricing New Orleans like a team that should be afraid of Miami.

Over the last ten games, the Pelicans are in the top half of the league in net rating and defensive rating. That is a key point for this matchup, because Miami has been leaning on defense lately as well.

One prop-based note that stands out: Saddiq Bey has gone over his projected point total in eight of New Orleans’ last ten games. During that run, he is averaging 22.4 points per game. That tells me the Pelicans have been getting consistent scoring outside of just one option, which makes them more reliable in a near pick’em spot.

Heat

Miami has won ten of the last 11 meetings in this matchup, including a 125-106 win over New Orleans on January 4. That is the one number that will scare bettors away from backing the Pelicans.

But the current Miami roster situation looks very different. The Heat are expected to be without Pelle Larsson, Tyler Herro, and Norman Powell. Andrew Wiggins is also listed as questionable.

That is a lot of scoring and shot creation potentially missing. Even if Miami defends at a high level, it becomes harder to separate from anyone if you cannot score efficiently in the half court.

New Orleans

New Orleans has a major edge in availability. The Pelicans are not dealing with anyone listed on the early injury report, which is a huge advantage in a game where both teams are on equal rest after playing Monday.

In a spot like this, I want the team that can keep its rotation stable for 48 minutes. If Miami is missing multiple key guards and wings, that also increases the risk of late-game scoring droughts.

Miami

Miami’s defense has taken a step forward over the last few games. The Heat held Chicago to 91 points, Boston to 98 points, and Washington to 101 points over the last ten days.

Four of Miami’s last five games have also stayed under the total. That lines up with what I want to bet here, because the total has already been hammered down from 234.5 to 231.5.

Even with that move, I still think the under is the better angle because Miami’s offense could be limited, and New Orleans has been defending better recently too.

  • New Orleans is 6-3 against the spread in recent weeks.
  • Miami’s defense has held Chicago to 91, Boston to 98, and Washington to 101 over the last ten days.

  • Saddiq Bey has gone over his projected point total in eight of New Orleans’ last ten games and is averaging 22.4 PPG in that stretch.

How to Bet

This is the type of game where I trust the market move and the roster situation more than the head-to-head history.

Miami has dominated this matchup, but the Heat are expected to be short-handed, and New Orleans is playing its best ball in weeks. At a near pick’em number, I would rather take the healthier team that has been covering spreads.

For the total, I am sticking with the under. Miami has been playing lower-scoring games lately, and the Heat may not have enough scoring punch without key names available.
