Milwaukee Battles with Fans
The Milwaukee Bucks have underachieved so far this season, and their fans have been letting them hear about it. In a recent game, the Bucks were losing at home to the Timberwolves, leading to boos from the fans. Star player Giannis Antetokounmpo expressed frustration with the fans booing, which may not be a good sign if the team is hoping to keep Giannis around much longer. As of now, they are 11th in the East, but still in striking distance of the playoffs as they are just 1.5-games out of the final Play-In spot.
In their recent loss to Minnesota, Milwaukee was led by Giannis with 25 points and eight rebounds in the losing effort. He is leading the team with 29.1 PPG and 9.7 RPG, but is listed as questionable for this game as he is battling an ankle injury. If he cannot play, this would leave Kevin Porter Jr. as their top scorer, as the 25-year old shooting guard has been scoring 18.0 PPG as a starter this season. Ryan Rollins has been running the point, he is adding another 16.5 PPG and 5.5 APG in his first season as a full time starter.
Bobby Portis comes off the bench, but would likely be asked to start if Giannis is out, Portis is getting 13.0 PPG and 6.5 RPG on the year. The Bucks rank 12th in offensive efficiency and 18th in defensive efficiency according to dunksandthrees.com. Milwaukee plays relatively slow, ranking 24th in the league in possessions per game.
Spurs Miss Opportunity
The San Antonio Spurs were just one game away from completing a season sweep over the Oklahoma City Thunder, but ultimately lost their fourth meeting the last time out. San Antonio is trying to prove they can compete with the best teams in the league, and it seems like a reasonable assumption anytime that Victor Wembanyama is healthy. San Antonio is currently 2nd in the West, trailing only the Thunder, but are 6.5 games back in the standings.
In the Thunder game, Stephon Castle was their top scorer with 20 points while adding eight assists. Castle is in his second year in the league, and is putting up strong numbers with his 17.3 PPG and 6.8 APG. His most important skill set may be his defense, as he is an energetic defender who can cover ground quickly on the perimeter. Castle was considered to be trade bait for a while, but the team is still trying to figure out what Dylan Harper will turn out to be, as the 19-year old is getting 10.5 PPG while mostly coming off the bench. Victor Wembanyama is the top player on the team, he is averaging 24.0 PPG and 11.0 RPG, while blocking 2.7 shots per game.
De'Aaron Fox is a veteran on this team, but the 28-year old is still in his prime as he is averaging 20.5 PPG and 5.8 APG. Devin Vassell is a strong wing scorer, but is still out of this game with an injury. San Antonio is ranked 8th in offensive efficiency and 7th in defensive efficiency. The Spurs play slightly faster than the Bucks, ranking 18th in pace of play.
Injury Report for Bucks vs. Spurs:
Bucks:
- Out: Taurean Prince
- Questionable: Giannis Antetokounmpo
Spurs:

Bucks vs. Spurs Picks and Predictions
Spread pick for Bucks vs. Spurs
- Spurs - 7.5 (5 units)
This line opened at 7.5, and has stayed there so far, signaling that there is no clear news whether Giannis will play or not. Given this context, the better play is to take the Spurs at 7.5-point favorites, as if late news comes out that Giannis will sit, it could jump to a double digit spread. Giannis has shown frustration with the fans and front office, so if his ankle is bothering him, he may be unlikely to play. This would be bad news for Milwaukee, as Portis is not capable of slowing down Wemby around the rim. San Antonio already has a better slew of guards with Fox and Castle leading the charge, the Spurs get an easy cover here.
Take San Antonio to cover.
Over/Under Pick for Bucks vs. Spurs
- Under 226.5 (4 units)
The Bucks could be without Giannis here, which would be a major detriment to their offensive ability. Without Giannis, the Spurs can play differently defensively, putting even more pressure on outside shooters as they do not need to protect the rim as much. Even if Giannis plays, he is still struggling with an ankle injury, which is not a good thing while going up against the best shot blocker in the league. Both of these teams are in the bottom half of the league in possessions per game, and will play at a slow pace. The Spurs like to get Wemby involved as much as possible, which creates longer possessions. San Antonio has gone under in ten of their last eleven, expect another under here.
Take the under.
