Minnesota Looks for Another Win

The Minnesota Timberwolves and the Cleveland Cavaliers will only meet twice this season, but those contests will take place in just a four day span. The T-Wolves were able to grab a win in the first matchup, and look to sweep the series here as they send the series to Cleveland. Minnesota is 4th in the Western Conference standings, but the margins are tight before the All-Star Break. In their recent win over Cleveland, they were led by Julius Randle with 28 points and 11 rebounds in the victory.

Randle is their veteran power forward who continues to put up strong numbers, he is getting 22.3 PPG, 7.2 RPG and 5.8 APG. He is listed as questionable for this game as he is battling a thumb injury. Anthony Edwards just hit 10,000 career points, one of the quickest players to do it in NBA history, but that might not help Minnesota in this game. The Timberwolves could be without both Randle and Edwards, as Ant-Man is listed on the injury report as questionable for injury management.

If their top two scorers are out, Minnesota will need to rely on Jaden McDaniels (14.9 PPG) and Naz Reid (14.2 PPG) to carry their offensive punch. Rudy Gobert is still available to control the paint for the T-Wolves. Minnesota is ranked 7th in offensive efficiency and 5th in defensive efficiency according to dunksandthrees.com. The Wolves are ranked 12th in the league in possessions per game.

Cavaliers Drop Two of Three

The Cleveland Cavaliers are one of the top teams in the Eastern Conference, but have not looked like it on a consistent basis this season. The Cavs have lost two of their last three, and now come into a home game against the Timberwolves needed to grab a win to avoid getting swept by a Western Conference opponent. In their recent loss to the T-Wolves, Donovan Mitchell had 30 points but it was not enough in the loss.

Mitchell is the most electric scorer on the team, and has been an All-Star in each of the last five seasons, spanning back to his days with the Jazz. Mitchell is getting 29.8 PPG and 5.4 APG to lead Cleveland, and is also their top outside shooter with 3.9 made threes per game on 38.8% shooting from deep. Evan Mobley added another 19 points in the game against Minnesota, and will be needed to battle their length inside. Mobley is averaging 17.8 PPG and 8.8 RPG.

Darius Garland is their outside shooting point guard, he is scoring 17.5 PPG, while De'Andre Hunter is an athletic wing who contributes another 14.6 PPG and 4.5 RPG. The Cavs rank 2nd in the league in offensive efficiency and 9th in the league in defensive efficiency. The Cavaliers play slightly faster than the T-Wolves, ranking 8th in the league in possessions per game.

Timberwolves vs. Cavaliers Picks and Predictions

Spread pick for Timberwolves vs. Cavaliers

  • Cleveland -3.5 (5 units)

This looks like a game that the Timberwolves might secede. Anthony Edwards is healthy, but listed on ESPN as questionable for rest management. Julius Randle is also there for a thumb injury. The T-Wolves' scoring ability drops off quickly after their top two scorers, as McDaniels, Reid and Gobert cannot be asked to carry the offense on their own. Cleveland has a talented roster, and are big on the inside with Mobley and Allen. Mitchell and Garland are healthy on the perimeter, and their combination of having their top four players healthy is enough for Cleveland to take this game at home.

Take Cleveland to win and cover.

Over/Under Pick for Timberwolves vs. Cavaliers

  •    Over (4 units)

This will be a fast paced game as the Timberwolves are dealing with injuries, and both of these teams are in the top half of the league in pace of play. Julius Randle and Anthony Edwards are questionable here, they are scorers, but also tough defenders on the opposite end. If they are out of the game, Minnesota will be searching for players who can stop this Cleveland attack. The Cavaliers are 8th in the league in possessions per game, they play fast and will be looking to smell blood in the water here and push the tempo. This will be a high scoring game.

Take the over.
