The Timberwolves aim for their fourth straight W
The Minnesota Timberwolves (13-8; 8-13 ATS; 11-10 O/U) finished November with consecutive home wins over the Boston Celtics 119-115 and the San Antonio Spurs 125-112. Anthony Edwards dropped 39 points on Boston and 32 on San Antonio before he tortured the Pelicans for 44 points on 16-for-30 shooting from the field.

The Timberwolves overcame a 15-point deficit at Smoothie King Center last Tuesday. They went 20-for-51 from beyond the arc and 25-for-29 from the foul line while posting a 29/9 assist-to-turnover ratio. Rudy Gobert had a big game, notching 26 points and 13 rebounds, while Naz Reid added 18 points, six assists, and five boards off the bench.
Edwards has been unstoppable lately, averaging 38.3 points through his previous six games. During that stretch, the Timberwolves have gone 3-3 SU and 2-4 ATS. Minnesota is now eighth in the league in adjusted offensive efficiency (119.3 points per 100 possessions) and 13th in adjusted defensive efficiency (114.3).
The Pelicans hope to snap their four-game skid
The New Orleans Pelicans (3-19; 12-9-1 ATS; 13-9 O/U) have only won one of their previous 14 games overall. After stopping their nine-game slide with a 143-130 victory to the Chicago Bulls, the Pelicans have dropped four straight contests against the Memphis Grizzlies, 133-128 in overtime, the Golden State Warriors, 104-96, the Los Angeles Lakers, 133-121, and the Minnesota Timberwolves, 149-142 in overtime.
Trey Murphy III went off for 33 points and 15 rebounds last Tuesday, but the Pelicans missed a huge opportunity to stun the Timberwolves. New Orleans shot 54.9% from the field (12-for-21 from deep) and missed just five of its 35 attempts from the foul line, but it wasn’t enough. At least, the Pels covered the spread for the seventh time in their last nine games.
The Pelicans have serious injury problems. Zion Williamson, Jordan Poole, Karlo Matkovic, and Dejounte Murray are all out, while Yves Missi and Herbert Jones are both questionable for Thursday’s games against Minnesota. At the moment, the Pels are 25th in the NBA in adjusted offensive efficiency (112.3) and 29th in adjusted defensive efficiency (123.0).
Timberwolves vs. Pelicans Pick
Spread Pick for Timberwolves vs. Pelicans
- Minnesota Timberwolves -11.5 (4 units)
The Timberwolves should have learned the lesson. They barely outlasted the Pelicans on Tuesday, and New Orleans is arguably one of the worst teams in the league. The Pelicans miss some very important players, so I have to take the Timberwolves in this game.
Minnesota needs to play better defense than it did two days ago. On the other side of the ball, the Timberwolves will torture the Pelicans once more. New Orleans is dead last in the NBA in opposing 2-point percentage (62.2%) and 29th in 3-pointers allowed per 100 possessions (15.4).
Over/Under Pick for Timberwolves vs. Pelicans
- Over 233.5 (4 units)
I expect the Timberwolves to improve on the defensive side of the ball, but I would still take the over on the total. As I noted, the Pelicans’ defense has been horrendous this season, so the Timberwolves should be scoring at will.
Minnesota ranks 11th in the NBA in 3-point rate (.429) and fourth in 3-point percentage (38.7%). Just six teams hit more triples per 100 possessions than the Timberwolves, who register exactly 100 possessions per 48 minutes. The T-Wolves love to get to the free-throw line, too, and the Pelicans will struggle to contain them in the paint.
The over is 7-1 in the last eight encounters between Minnesota and New Orleans.
