The Timberwolves are back on the road
The Minnesota Timberwolves (5-4; 3-6 ATS; 7-2 O/U) finished their three-game road trip with a 137-114 defeat at the New York Knicks last Wednesday. After a couple of comfortable wins against the Charlotte Hornets 122-105 and the Brooklyn Nets 125-109, the T-Wolves failed to cope with the Knicks in Anthony Edwards’ return from a four-game absence.

Minnesota bounced back from that heavy loss against New York with a 137-97 dismantling of the Utah Jazz last Friday. The Timberwolves outscored the Jazz 43-15 in the first quarter and never looked back. Minnesota shot 56.8% from the field (17-for-36 from downtown), and Edwards led the way with 37 points.
Julius Randle posted a triple-double against Utah, notching 19 points, 12 assists, and 10 rebounds in just 26 minutes on the floor. Randle has hit the 30-point mark three times during Edwards’ absence. The Timberwolves score 119.6 points per 100 possessions (5th in the NBA) and allow 116.7 points in return (21st).
The Kings continue their homestand
The Sacramento Kings (3-6; 4-5 ATS; 6-3 O/U) are off to a slow start, though they’ve won two of their previous four contests. During that stretch, the Kings have beaten the Milwaukee Bucks 135-133 and the Golden State Warriors 121-116 while losing against the Denver Nuggets 130-124 and the Oklahoma City Thunder 132-101.
Last Friday, the Kings were trounced by the Thunder at Golden 1 Center. Sacramento shot just 41.3% from the field (15-for-40 from deep), and the Thunder outscored the Kings 60-34 in the paint. The Kings yielded 70 first-half points, as their defense continued to struggle. Russell Westbrook led the way for the Kings with 24 points and nine assists.
Domantas Sabonis (14.5 PPG, 14.2 RPG) missed two straight games with a rib injury and is questionable for Sunday’s clash against the Timberwolves. Should he remain on the sidelines, Drew Eubanks (6.3 PPG, 2.8 RPG) will get another start. Keegan Murray is still recovering from a thumb injury.
Timberwolves vs. Kings Pick
Spread Pick for Timberwolves vs. Kings
- Minnesota Timberwolves (4 units)
The Kings score just 112.7 points per 100 possessions (22nd in the NBA) and surrender 119.1 points in return (tied for 25th). They are 29th in the league in opposing 2-point percentage (59.5%) and 19th in defensive turnover percentage (12.9%).
There’s a lot of room for improvement in Minnesota’s game, especially on the defensive side of the ball, but the Timberwolves should be able to see off the Kings’ challenge. Sacramento’s defense leaves a lot to be desired, and the Kings’ offense has been pretty inconsistent so far this season. If Domantas Sabonis doesn’t suit up, the Kings will be in trouble.
I’m backing the Timberwolves to extend their dominance at Golden 1 Center. Minnesota is 5-0 SU and ATS in its last five road tilts against Sacramento.
Over/Under Pick for Timberwolves vs. Kings
- Over (4 units)
I expect a high-scoring affair. The Kings play fast, tallying 102.2 possessions per 48 minutes, and the Timberwolves won’t mind joining the party, given the Kings’ leaky defense.
Minnesota registers 99.3 possessions per 48 minutes, but the Timberwolves lean on 3-pointers. They are 16th in the league in 3-point rate (.407) and second in 3-point percentage (41.9%). The T-Wolves hit the ninth-most triples per game in the NBA (14.4).
The over is 5-1 in Minnesota’s last six games overall, and it is 4-1 in Sacramento’s previous five. Also, four of their last five encounters have gone over.
