The Minnesota Timberwolves head to Delta Center in Salt Lake City, UT, on Monday night to square off against the Utah Jazz in the Northwest Division showdown with the tip-off at 9:00 PM ET, so we’ve prepared the Timberwolves vs. Jazz prediction to get you covered.
Minnesota meets Utah for the second time this season. Last Friday, the Timberwolves dismantled the Jazz 137-97, covering a 12.5-point spread at Target Center in Minneapolis with ease.
The T-Wolves have dominated the Jazz lately. Utah has only won one of its previous 10 games against Minnesota. Will the Timberwolves extend their dominance in this series? Let’s take a closer look at this Timberwolves vs. Jazz prediction, one of our NBA picks for Monday’s slate.
The Timberwolves play without rest
Sunday’s games have been excluded from the analysis, and the 5-4 Minnesota Timberwolves visited the Sacramento Kings, searching for their fourth victory in five games. Over their previous four showings, the T-Wolves have beaten the Charlotte Hornets 122-10, the Brooklyn Nets 125-109, and the Utah Jazz 137-97 while losing against the New York Knicks 137-114.

After missing four straight games with a hamstring injury, Anthony Edwards returned to the floor in that heavy loss at the Knicks this past Wednesday. He had just 15 points in 29 minutes on the floor, and the Timberwolves couldn’t stop anything. Also, they gave up a whopping 21 offensive rebounds to the Knicks.
The Timberwolves bounced back with that impressive victory over the Jazz. Edwards led the way with 37 points, Julius Randle posted a triple-double of 19 points, 10 rebounds, and 12 assists, and the Timberwolves outrebounded the Jazz 52-40. Yet, Utah posted 16 offensive boards.
Minnesota missed Terrence Shannon Jr. (3.9 PPG, 2.4 RPG) on Sunday night, but all other guys were ready to go. The Timberwolves lean on their offense early in the season, tallying 119.6 points per 100 possessions (5th in the NBA). They are second in the league in 3-point percentage (41.9%).
The Jazz continue to struggle
The Utah Jazz started the season with two wins in their first three games. Since then, the Jazz have gone 1-5 SU and 2-4 ATS. After stopping a three-game slide with a 105-103 victory at the Boston Celtics, the Jazz have dropped consecutive games against the Detroit Pistons, 114-103, and the Minnesota Timberwolves, 137-97.
Last Wednesday, the Jazz made just 38.4% of their field goals in Detroit. They scored 14 points in the third quarter and eventually failed to cover a 9.5-point spread. Svi Mykhailuk led the way for Utah with 28 points, while Lauri Markkanen had 25 points and four rebounds.
Two days later, the Jazz fell apart in Minneapolis. They shot 37.2% from the field (9-for-39 from deep) while playing terrible defense. Keyonte George scored 18 points for Utah, and Markkanen added 12 points and three steals.
The Jazz cannot count on Walker Kessler (14.4 PPG, 10.8 RPG), whose season is over with a shoulder injury. That’s a huge blow for the Jazz, who score 111.0 points per 100 possessions (26th in the NBA) and allow 118.9 points in return (24th).
Timberwolves vs. Jazz Pick
Spread Pick for Timberwolves vs. Jazz
- Minnesota Timberwolves (4 units)
The Timberwolves will have to deal with fatigue on the second night of a back-to-back, but they shouldn’t have any problems beating the Jazz. Utah’s defense has been pretty bad thus far, and Walker Kessler’s absence won’t help the Jazz.
Minnesota has a lot of room for improvement on the defensive side of the ball. Last Friday, the Timberwolves put on their best defensive performance of the season, and the Jazz failed to hit a 100-point mark.
As I noted in the intro, the Timberwolves own the Jazz. Minnesota is 9-1 SU and 7-3 ATS in its last 10 meetings with Utah.
Over/Under Pick for Timberwolves vs. Jazz
- Under (4 units)
I expect the Timberwolves to slow things down a bit. They take the floor for the second straight night. Minnesota is 22nd in the NBA in pace (99.3 possessions per 48 minutes), while Utah ranks 20th in this category (99.9).
Hereof, I will take the under. Of course, I’m a bit worried about Utah’s struggling defense, but the Jazz could easily struggle to score against the Timberwolves once more. Utah makes just 30.5% of its 3-pointers (28th in the league) and 52.7% of its 2-pointers (25th). Also, the Jazz are turnover-prone (27th in turnover percentage, 14.8%).
