New Orleans Pelicans (0-4) vs. Los Angeles Clippers (2-2)

The Emirates NBA Cup 2025 starts Friday, October 31, and the New Orleans Pelicans head to Intuit Dome in Inglewood, CA, to take on the Los Angeles Clippers in the West Group B clash, so we’ve prepared the Pelicans vs. Clippers prediction.

The Pelicans meet the Clippers for the first time this season. In 2024-25, the Clippers took two out of three games from the Pelicans, but New Orleans went 3-0 against the spread. The Pelicans have beaten the number in 10 of their previous 11 encounters with the Clippers.

The Pelicans are off to a terrible start

The New Orleans Pelicans (0-4; 1-3 ATS; 2-2 O/U) are winless in 11 straight games dating back to the previous season. The Pels started their 2025-26 campaign with a couple of narrow losses against the Memphis Grizzlies, 128-122, and the San Antonio Spurs, 120-116 in overtime, but in their last two showings, the Pelicans have been trounced by the Boston Celtics, 122-90, and the Denver Nuggets, 122-88.

Last Wednesday, the Pelicans allowed 69 second-half points in Denver while scoring just 41 in return. The Nuggets outrebounded the Pels 56-36 on the night, and New Orleans shot just 37.6% from the field (7-for-34 from deep) and 58.6% from the foul line (17-for-29). Rookie Jeremiah Fears led the way for the Pelicans with 21 points and six assists, while Zion Williamson had just 11 points and zero rebounds in 26 minutes on the floor.

New Orleans cannot count on Dejounte Murray (Achilles) and Kevon Looney (knee). However, that’s not an excuse for a terrible performance against the Nuggets. The Pelicans struggled against the Celtics, too, shooting just 33.3% from the field (9-for-36 from deep) in front of the home fans. Boston outscored New Orleans 35-12 in the fourth quarter and finished the game with 16 offensive rebounds.

The Clippers are off to a shaky start

The Los Angeles Clippers (2-2; 1-3 ATS; 2-2 O/U) started their 2025-26 campaign with an embarrassing 129-108 loss at the Utah Jazz. Then, the Clippers strung together a couple of wins over the Phoenix Suns, 129-102, and the Portland Trail Blazer,s 114-107, before losing at the Golden State Warriors 98-79.

Last Tuesday, the Clippers put on an awful performance at Chase Center in San Francisco. They shot 36.6% from the field (6-for-33 from downtown) while scoring just 30 points in the second half. The Clippers posted a hideous 10/16 assist-to-turnover ratio and committed five personal fouls, which is unprecedented.

James Harden scored 20 points against the Warriors, and Ivica Zubac double-doubled with 14 points and 12 rebounds. Bradley Beal (5.5 PPG) missed the last two games due to a back injury and is questionable for Friday’s clash against New Orleans. Bogdan Bogdanovic replaced Beal in the starting lineup, scoring just two points in the past two games.

Pelicans vs. Clippers Pick

Spread Pick for Pelicans vs. Clippers

  • Los Angeles Clippers -10.5 (5 units)

Betting on this Clippers team feels like a coin flip. On paper, they look like one of the deepest teams in the Western Conference. But on the floor, the Clippers have struggled thus far. They lost at Utah as double-digit favorites, failed to cover against Portland as 8.5-point home favorites, and scored just 79 points against the Warriors.

I expect the Clippers to bounce back from that ugly offensive display against Golden State. The Pelicans are 29th in the NBA in both offensive and defensive efficiency. They score just 103.6 points per 100 possessions and surrender 122.5 points in return.

Over/Under Pick for Pelicans vs. Clippers

  • Under 227.5 (5 units)

The Clippers play at the slowest pace in the NBA, tallying 95.1 possessions per 48 minutes, while the Pelicans are 25th in pace with 97.8 possessions per 48 minutes. The Pels rank 26th in 3-point rate (.354), and their offense has struggled a lot over the past two games, so I’m going with the under.

It’s a tricky wager because of the Pelicans’ leaky defense, but I expect the Clippers to shut New Orleans down and hold the Pels below a 105-point mark. The Clippers are 13th in 3-point rate (.423), but their 3-point percentage is not great (34.8%, 18th in the league).
